Description
1939 Cadillac Fleetwood Series, Restored 7 passenger Sedan.346 Cubic Inch Cadillac V-8 Flathead with 3-speed manual transmission. (3 on the tree).
Owned by a Retired California Supreme Court JusticeVehicle runs and drives outstanding. Restoration was in 2004 by Ed Cholokian's "All Cads of the 40's and 50's" when it was in Sylmar CA, and finished in Las Vegas Nevada. All parts were either restored off the car or NOS Cadi parts supplied by All Cads, who are still in business.
Converted to a 12 volt system with an Optima Battery (red top).
All body work was filed with lead instead of bondo, I have the restoration photos of the work. I have included some of the photos of the work being done when the car was restored. You can see we used lead to fill things, not bondo. The Vehicle received new brakes and had everything re-furbished. It is mechanically solid. The radiator was recently replaced with a custom fabricated aluminum one, but the original radiator is included in the sale. The manual fuel pump was removed and a electric pump fitted. A brand new mechanical pump and the fuel lines will be included with the sale. The air filter was converted to use a K&N element instead of the oil bath, but you cannot see it so it looks original.
The interior was done in gray cloth with black leather. The wood that could be saved was refinished and replaced. The car is not an AC / Heat car (more of those were the formal sedans). I have full photos of the restoration and the receipts for the work that was done. These cars are becoming rarer and rarer these days. Could be used to start a limo business or rent to the studios, but I didn't have the heart to do it after dad passed. I cannot store it any longer so it needs a new home. Since the restoration, it has been garage stored and driven occasionally. Less than 200 miles have been driven since restoration. It wins car show awards and turns heads everywhere it goes.
The title is clear and in my name. I am the son of the now deceased retired Justice.
Things it needs:Wipers and glove box installed.Window Crank on Passenger Door installedFuel Gauge revisited. It worked, but stopped for some reason. Some fine tuning of window adjustments (hood alignment is a little off, etc.)One repair to a paint blemish on the passenger side A Pillar. (see photo)A little bit of love, and someone to drive it more than I do. The paint still shows brilliant but there are areas that are starting to show age.The car will come with some spare parts, such as brand new running board rubber; mechanical fuel pump; and extra air cleaner element (original oil bath), a dome light and a spare tire rim.
Some fun facts:Cadillac is considered as one of the first automobile brands in the world. When Cadillac was purchased by General Motors in 1909 it had already established itself as one of Americas premier luxury auto lines. Cadillac has continuously been at the forefront of technical advances, such as full electrical systems, clashless manual transmissions and steel roofs. The Cadillac brand has developed three V-8 engines becoming a standard in the American automotive industry. Since its inception, Cadillac's biggest selling point was that the use precision manufacturing which translates into excellent reliability. The 75 series is an astonishing 225.1 inches long with curb weight of 4900lbs. Body changes in 1939 included a new pointed grille with functional side grilles which were diecast with finch bars. The trunk now has the appearance of being an integral part of the body. Cadillac bodies are now completely all steel except for the wooden main sills. Optional side mounted tire covers were hinged to the front fenders. An option which this exceptional Series 75 has appointed with. New in 1939 were other advancements and 10mm sparkplugs. One needs only to open the suicide doors to realize the opulence this Series 75 displays. An area of a small parlor consisting of a large soft bench seat (couch) with two matching fold down jump seats and footrest. There is even a glass roll up window to separate the driver from the rear seating area. Under the hood is a 346 cubic inch V-8 engine attached to three-speed synchromesh manual transmission. One look at this 1939 Cadillac Series 75 Formal Sedan and you will fall in love with American opulence at its finest.Located in Simi Valley, CA.
