Seller Description

This eye-catching 1946
fast-back coupe was Cadillac’s first post-war offering and inspired many
fastbacks that followed. The Series-62
Cadillac sedanette looks original inside and out, but looks can be deceiving… firing
up this Caddie produces a deep throaty V8 burble from the powerful 500ci
Cadillac V8 mated to a TH400 transmission giving some more serious horsepower over the original
flathead V8. The interior presents as
original – even the original column shift auto is in place. Seats and door trims are upholstered in tan
leather and the duco is a standout factory metallic Madeira Maroon.
The car was restored some
years ago in California and then spent several years with a Cadillac collector
in Japan, undergoing a few more improvements.
It could be driven in peak hour traffic in Osaka, Japan hence the
improved cooling system described below.
This car is bullet proof mechanically, looks stunning on the road, and
won’t be seen in the company of another anytime soon. To the best of my knowledge, it is the only
1946 Cadillac sedanette in Australia, with only 2323 being produced that year.
An original Southern California car, it was exported to Japan to a
collector several years ago and then I purchased it in January 2016. I bought it from the 4th owner in Japan almost 5y ago. I have a history of the previous owners. The paintwork and drive-train work was
done in about 2005, although significant other work has been done since then.
The body is straight with no dents. Paint was a high end job, quite
thick with clear coat on top but shows minor wear & small cracks at some
places on close inspection, particularly around doors/windows and mostly on the
hood centre trim. The 3rd
owner who painted it told me that there was no rust at all on the car, except
for a small patch on the metalwork above the rear bumper. Overall it’s a decent paint job
but no longer at show car level.
Interior seats and door cards were re-covered
in quality tan leather & new springs installed when the car was restored. All
trim is in excellent condition.
The Cad runs a powerful high compression, pre-emissions 500ci
Cadillac V8 believed to have been sourced from a 1969 Eldorado, mated to a
TH400 transmission.
It has four all electric temp-controlled SPAL cooling fans (the fans can
be individually controlled to come on at different temperatures) run by pulsed
RPM fan controller and there are 4 independent controllers, one for each fan.

The Cad runs cool even when stuck in mid-summer traffic heat. The fans run mostly at 50% of their potential
speed so it’s very quiet operation. A high
flow Flow-cooler water pump provides for more cooling at low rpm.
The engine runs smooth, running a modern Edelbrock carburettor and
electronic distributor (original goes with car). It has plenty of torque at low
rpm, the exhaust sounds great but the car looks authentic from the outside,
with original wheels, hubcaps and period correct whitewall tyres. Plenty
of electrical and mechanical work has been carried out over the last decade,
which I can detail to interested parties.
Brightware looks good on the street but front and rear bumpers will need
re-chroming if you want to show the car.
This is a car you can drive and enjoy without the hassle and costs of
maintaining a 75 yo, under-powered and overheating drive-train &
generator/regulator electric system - in today's traffic.
I am happy to provide genuinely interested parties with more
information, photos, etc. The car is on
full registration in WA.
