Seller Description
Selling my tastefully assembled 1946 Chevrolet Pickup project that is built on a General Motors S-10 chassis (good solid upgraded on these old trucks) and she is powered by an older (1980s I think) small block backed by a 700R4 4 speed transmission. Cab, bed, fenders, running boards and doorshave always been together. The patina is real so this is an all original vehicle except for the chassis and powertrain. It looks better in person than some of the pictures show. No bondo but the body does have a few rust thru areas (hole in the running board but the metal is think and hole looks cool) and then some weakness in the bottom of the doors which is pretty normal. Fenders also have some cracks but old timers would just weld in a bolt inside of the lip and call it good. Really, these noted issues are not big problems. for a 72 year old body, this is in great shape. Highpoints of this build are these. Its just cool to look at. The truck makes everyone look and I do get stopped or waved at a lot. Audio system is a newer Alpine with 4 speakers, AMP and SUB under the seat. Steering column is from a 1969 Oldsmobile 98 so it tilts and telescopes perfectly (also why it is blue). Steering wheel is from a 1950s Chevy pick up and was red when I bought it. Truck floors were OK but I did replace those when changing to the Lokar Shifter as they felt weak and this was a good time to do this work. Later Dynomatted the floor and dash area after a layer of Pore 15 was applied. Engine needed a new carb so there is a newer Holley 680 on top and since I wanted an easy starting vehicle I changed the worn distributor so some thing new and electronic. Brakes are disc /drum from the S-10 and do a great job on this light weight truck. I also have a heater unit that can be added if you want. Truck will easily haul up to 500-600 lbs in the back with 3 people in the cab. Any more and the lowered parts do hit hard on bumps. The trick is lowered with spindles and chopped springs and not by air bags.I built this truck to prove that I anyone can build a vehicle if you try. It is not perfect but it allowed me to cross off something on my bucket list. The Black Harley in the picture is my next project. If I was keeping, my intent was to copy the vehicle in the last picture and put a GM LS motor in the truck. The fuel tank is under the bed and the tank is from a newer Jeep soo it has the return line set up already. Smaller and lighter with fuel injection. Maybe some upgrades to the suspension would follow as the 22 inch low profile tire/wheel setup does not offer at times the smooth ride everyone would love. The window tracks need new rubber material as they rattle in the tracks but I normally just drive on dry warm days so windows are rarely up. There are some cracks on what I think is the original glass as it looks like someone shot them with a bb gun long ago. I would also clear coat the point just to keep it in good condition.I have posted and sold this truck3 times in the past24 months. First time determined the pricing was pretty good as I had 2000 views and 200 bids but I was holding out for too much. Second buyer gave me the non-refundable deposit of $500 and ended up buying my Harley which he begged to own vs. the truck. Yep, I sold the Harley as that was a good price he offered and I turned around and got a StreetGlide. Last buyer gave me the deposit and is struggling with the rest. This was in June so I am assuming he is defaulting. Based on all of this, my price is fair market as I have certainly more invested in the build but I had fun and learned a lot. IF, June seller comes up with the remaining balance owed, I will end this auction early but, if not, do bid on my cool vehicle. As you can see, I am asking less than I have into the project but I did this more to learn to build a vehicle than to make money. Pics 1-3 are the exterior of the truck.Pics 4-5 are the interior and show the original look but with the new wheelPics 6-7 show engine and underside. Clean and orderly. Radiator overflow is a 100 year old brass fire extinguisher that I am not showing nor am I showing the electric cooling fan and external trans cooler. Pic 8 shows the LED lights. They are cool when not driving (illegal when driving) but are unique and are in the grill, under the running boards and in the rear. Pic 9 is our employee car show where I won popular vote of the 40 cars therePic 10 is the Harley project I need to finish. Bought this last NovemberPic 11 is the truck size wise compared to my Ram truckPic 12 is the direction I was taking this vehicle.
At the low bid of $15000, I think this is a lot of vehicle for the investment. A company vehicle, show vehicle or just an odd vehicle to own. I have 4 other vehicles and need to thin out my rolling stock so I can work on my next project which is a Gen 2 Firebird which will be LS powered and with same attitude as this fun 1946 Pickup.Let me know if you if there are questions. I am sure I will be as honest with those as I am after drinking 4 Captain and Cokes and writing this rambling post.As usual, $500 non-refundable deposit if you are wanting to buy.
Questions Received:1) Title status. I have a regular GREEN Michigan Title. Same title you get when you buy a brand new vehicle. NOT a rebuilt, flood, assembled or other. Title is in my name. There is a VIN tag in the glove box riveted to metal. Vehicle is registered as HISTORIC as that lets me run an old plate and I get a huge break on annual fees. Hagerty is my insurance company.2) Can it be a daily driver. Sure it could be however I live in Detroit and due to traffic, my RAM Truck is much more comfortable. On weekends I do use it all the time. I have never been stranded in 6 years driving this (Ok, I had to jump it when the battery died).
3) I do not have the front bumper. Just the rear one.
4) I am pretty sure this is an all Michigan truck (actually Pontiac MI just north of Detroit). Frame is an S-10 and I sold parts there in the 80s. Engine (small block V8s) in Detroit and the only US plant in 46 that made these trucks was also in Pontiac.
