Seller Description

the Memphis MagnumThe legendary “Magnum Motors” where first developed in the late 60’s by Randy Smith These motors feature a 45" lower end with a 900cc Sportster top end. The combo makes a lightweight powerful motor. This motor was machined and built in the 70's but never used and sat in a Memphis TN shop (Super Cycle) till a few years back. I had Berry Wardlaw (Accurate Engineering) completely go through it. Checked all tolerances , doing complete re-gasket and bench ran/re-torqued/bench ran again. He also improved the cylinder base area welds (base area has to be increased to accept Sportster cylinders). The cylinders where powder coated black and heads where powder coated textured silver to give the top end a "shovelhead" look. rocker boxes are polished.Ignition is a Fairbanks/Morse magneto that was rebuilt by Morris Magnetos.New chrome cycle electric generator/regulator. A "battery eliminator" condenser was added to electrical system.Intake manifold is a vintage Spudage with dual 34mm Mikuni carburetors with a handmade prism style air scoop. Exhaust was handmade alsoTransmission is OEM Harley Panhead 4-speed.Primary belt drive is by BDLThe frame was purchased new from Paughco (35 degree rake, 3 out/6 up) that we modified with cross shaft for rear brake as well as other touches.Seat was upholstered by Jordan Dickerson (Union Speed and Style) on a steel frame that was made in house.Prism Gas tank from V-twin, Prism Oil tank is handmade from Stainless Steel and polishedThe frontend is a 9" over Pauhco narrow springer. We replaced front legs with hand twisted ones that match the in-house made sissy bar and brake linkage. We made the buckhorn style handlebars and welded to top tree. The dual headlight set is on a handmade bracket16 and 21 inch invader wheels.

The rear brake was engineered using a Panhead front hub with a Ironhead sportster sprocket. The backing plate and internals are also sportster. The brake linkage , including cross shaft setup was made in house. The Rider and passenger pegs a vintage Anderson that have been chromed Paint by French Kiss Kustoms . de of these motors was that you got what you paid for in performance. That’s why the Magnum 45 became the hot cket solving the problem. You modified your Harley-Davidson 45-inch FStock Harley-Davidson Flatheads aren’t exactly legends of horsepower. Well after World War II, Army surplus flatties were as cheap as the laughs in a ’50s sitcom, a bad ’50s sitcom. The downside of these motors was that you got what you paid for in performance. That’s why the Magnum 45 became the hot ticket for solving the problem. You modified your Harley-Davidson 45-inch Flathead to fit a Sportster top end to add more horsepower to wake up the engine while still being able to fit it into the tight confines of a rigid chassis. That’s exactly what Georgia resident Freddie Arnold did with this period piece of a rigid machine he calls the “Memphis Magnum.” It’s a 1947 Flathead lower end topped with the uppers from a 1969 Ironhead Sportster.
The finished hot rod wasn’t a solo effort, however. Although Freddie labored hard on the motor work, Hank Young brought his welding skills to bear on the bike in his Young Choppers shop in Marietta, Georgia. After the mocked-up machine got the go-ahead for paint, Bobby Bordeaux laid down a sweet combo plate of pearl and cool candy colors. Once the color finished curing, agnum” was crowned complete with a custom king/queen saddle from Jordan Levi Dickinson. The starting point for the bike may have been cheap, but the end result looks anything but t
