Seller Description
I bought this bike 16 years ago from a guy who had assisted in restoring it as a father-son project with his dad, who had recently passed away, and whom he said was well known in the Triumph organization. When I got the bike home I immediately bought an air cleaner and the correct-according-to-Gaylin longer silencers and was going to fix what seemed to be the wrong jets and slides in the carburetor. It had been sitting for 2 years, but started on the second kick once I filled it with gas. Before making any modifications I indeed did check into this guy's father, and holy moly it was Pete Colman! I immediately abandoned any notion that I should try to improve the tune of the bike or change it in any way. Pete Colman, for those of you who don't know, is in the AMA Hall of Fame, and is known among other things for winning races and building and tuning AMA-winning and land-speed-record Triumphs. There's a nice bio of him at motorcylemuseum.org.
The bike is exactly as I bought it, and is very nice but not concours condition. It is set up British style, with the pedestrian slicer on the front fender and no air cleaner. It has spent the last 16 years sitting covered in my garage, getting ridden about once a year. It always starts, runs well, is tight, and stops like you'd expect a bike with old cable drum brakes would. The numbers match, and I have clean title and current registration.
