1968 Harley-Davidson Touring
Up for auction is a just completed, totally restored 1968 Harley Davidson FLH Shovelhead. Bike is 90% original. Cases are numbers matching along with the trans and date codes on the heads. No welds or repairs on the cases. Frame is original and still has the fork lock however there are no keys for it or the ignition as I didn't get them with the bike. Wiring is oem and in excellent condition with everything working as it should, including the neutral safety switch which in these years will not allow the bike to start in gear.
Front end has new seals, fork oil and oem brake shoes and return springs with wheel bearings cleaned inspected and serviced. Swing arm is oem and has had the bearings and races replaced along with new seals. Shocks are in great shape and work well. Seat post works very well and provides the right ride height and travel without bottoming out over bumps. Seat is a real nice OEM unit.
Paint is new with no dents or dings with OEM Tank emblems. Speedo and dash are also the original OEM units to the bike. Lights are OEM with early style bullet style turn signals. Generator is a nice cycle electric that works as it should.
Engine is completely rebuilt and has S&S wheels, rods, cylinders and oil pump. Lifters are new Velva touch for shovel stock oiling along with an original NOS Tom Sifton 440 cam with the 440 and date code stamped on it not the taiwan teddy junk selling today. Cam cover is original to the bike and has been professionally polished along with new bushings installed. Cam chest sounds great with no wine or clicks. Ignition is original and has a new OEM set of points and condenser. Cylinders are S&S with a set of made in USA KB thirty over 9.5-1 forged pistons. along with S&S rods with new wrist pin bushings. Wheels are S&S and have also been redone with new shafts, pin and bearings and have been balanced. Engine is 88 inches and runs sweet and smooth down the highway with great throttle response making it easy to pass a truck on the highway without downshifting yet has very nice street manners when putting through town. Heads are original to the bike with professionally polished OEM rocker boxes and NOS OEM Rocker arms and shafts. All threads are in good shape. No leaks on this engine anywhere.
Trans is original to the bike and has been rebuilt using all Andrews gears, shafts and shift clutches. Clutch is a Rivera Primo with a new top of the line primary chain. Primary cases are also original to the bike and have also been professionally polished with no welds or repairs. Rear chain is also new o-ring high quality.
Rear brakes shoes and return springs are also NOS OEM. Backing plate is also original but has been chromed. Rear wheel bearings have been cleaned, inspected and serviced. Sprocket is in excellent shape with a made in USA PMI 23 tooth sprocket on the trans.
Floor boards are OEM as is the jiffy stand. Control cables are Barnett and the throttle cable is on the outside instead of the inner style. I like a return spring.
This bike needs nothing and has just been broke in with 1450 miles on the complete build. No smoking, tapping or irregular noises from the engine. Engine will start on one kick but I use the button, she starts right up either way.
Title is clear and in my name ready to transfer to the new owner. I also have the previous owner history of this bike and the receipt for the bike when bought new. Original color is Jet Fire Orange and Black. I also have receipts for all the engine work and parts along with detailed photos of the work as it was done. Bike is priced at 17,500.00 No Trades.
All in all this is a very nice ride that starts easy, runs and rides very well, and stays straight as you go down the road with your hands off the bars. Engine is a smooth runner with good clean vin# and matching belly #'s.
