:This is a 1970 Pontiac Firebird Formula 400. It is Coronado Gold with Medium Saddle standard interior, Factory 4 speed with 12 bolt rear end, power steering and disc brakes. It has just 130k miles. This is a very solid and original Firebird with matching numbers. Still even has original 14” wheels and hubcaps. The car runs and drives fantastic, is smooth on the highway and needs nothing to enjoy this summer. Of the 7,708 Formula 400s produced in 1970, 2,777 were equipped with manual transmissions. The previous owner had the car for 50 years since he came home from the military but unfortunately he didn’t have any of the original paperwork for the car. Sorry the pics are not sorted correctly but ebay now categorizes pics automatically and doesn’t let me correct

Exterior
The body on the car is excellent with no rust or evidence or metal replacement. The quarters, doors, trunk, floors etc are all very solid. There are no dents or and just one small ding on the driver’s fender that would be an easy fix for a paintless dent shop. It has never been wrecked. The fiberglass hood is very nice and not bowed like most of them are. Doors open and close like new.

The trunk is very clean with only a little light surface rust on the trunk floor. The car is very straight looking down the sides and body gaps are good. There is one small spot on the right rear inner fender where the drain hole is with a little fiberglass that can be seen in the pictures. It is very small and is the only evidence of rust I can find on the car. It was repainted about 5 years ago and is shiny and presents well but there are small bubbles in the paint in a few areas due to some type of issue when the car was painted. Bubbles can be seen to varying degrees on the trunk lid, driver’s C pillar, roof and tops of fenders. The worst being the driver’s side C pillar. I tried to show them in pics. These are not noticed by the casual observer but are easily seen by an enthusiast. It makes for a great driver as is but would need some paint work to be a show car. There are also some lines or scratches under the paint in the front bumper/nose but not too noticeable. Chrome and glass are in good shape overall but the taillight bezels are showing some age. Original wheels and hubcaps are nice and tires are like new BF Goodrich TA’s with white letters facing in. Overall the body on the car is very good and extremely dry and solid.
Interior
The interior is very nice and has been partially restored. The seats were done in a nice two tone saddle and black with black accents added the door panels. I was told by the previous owner that the seats were done in leather but I can’t say for sure as it could be vinyl. The gauges and woodgrain on the dash are in very nice shape. The dash pad is original and has a couple small cracks over toward the driver’s side that aren’t that noticeable. Carpet, headliner and door panels are very nice. It looks like the console was covered with vinyl as well it is looks very nice. There are no speaker holes or aftermarket equipment. The driver’s window crank needs to be pushed in to engage but works fine when you do that. Not sure if it needs a new crank or regulator.

The matching numbers 400 runs great with no smoke, knocks or noise. See pic of vin stamped in front of block in pics. It was rebuilt about 7 years ago and has less than 10k miles. It is completely stock down to the exhaust manifolds, dual snorkel air cleaner and Rochester carb. Clutch is smooth and the transmission shifts well through the factory Hurst shifter. The suspension and steering are tight and the car drives fantastic and handles nice thanks to large factory front and rear sway bars. It has a nice dual exhaust system that is fairly quiet but still has the muscle car sound. Lights, gauges, heater and wipers all work, even the original radio still works! I don’t think the rear defogger or the horn work. Overall the car is mechanically excellent for a 50 year old car.
Overall this is a very nice looking and driving Formula with the desirable 4 speed. The car is ready to be driven and enjoyed and I wouldn’t hesitate to drive it anywhere. It’s hard to find a matching numbers Formula that is this solid, complete and stock. It looks good as is but if you wanted to address the paint issues it would be an outstanding and valuable car, although I have been happy to drive it as is. If you are reading this I probably don’t have to tell you how great these cars look and how nice they drive, especially for its age. Not to mention all the thumbs up you get while driving and comments you get at the gas station or parking lot. I have resisted the urge to modify it but if it doesn’t sell I will add spoilers and some much bigger wheels and tires and drive it for a couple years.
International buyers are welcome. Car is sold as is where is with no warranty expressed or implied. It is available for inspection by appointment only. I have done my best to describe it accurately and thoroughly but please understand that this is a 50 year old car that is not new and has not been restored. I have sold quite a few cars on ebay and try very hard to describe them accurately and to make sure potential buyers have any information I would want as a buyer. In fairness to all bidders I will not disclose the reserve. I reserve the right to end the auction at any time, however, my intention is to let the auction run its course Please make sure you have funds available and have gotten permission from your spouse, partner, mom or whomever you need permission from before bidding. Full payment must be made within 3 business days of auction end and vehicle must be picked up within 21 days of auction end unless prior arrangements are made. Payment by cash or wire transfer only. Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer but I will help however I can. Bidders with a feedback rating of less than 10 must contact me prior to bidding or I will cancel your bid.
