Seller Description
Selling my 1970 Porsche 914 project car. I purchased this in the fall of 2017 with the intention of restoring the car myself. New job put a lot of time constraints on me, no time to start restoration.
Car was registered, passed inspection and on the road last year. It starts, stops, drives. I have done 30 miles drives in the hills with it no problem.
As far as I can tell it is a numbers matching late 1970 production run. Engine is 4 cylinder 1.7L. Car starts no problem, brakes are good, steering feels fine. It has a slight random miss-fire on occasion. Odometer shows 27,417.
Car will need rust repair on both passenger and driver side longs. Some rust spots in the rear trunk by the back panel, rust spots in corners of front trunk. I am sure the floors will need some attention. The famed "Hell hole" will need some attention, so will the battery tray. I am sure there is some rust in the sail panels at least in the driver side one, you can see the rust hole from the inside driver side engine compartment fender wall. All instruments work, lights pop up, left one is a little slower. Lights work. Horn does not work. Rear lights work but the lens have cracks in them.
Doors close and lock, definitely have rubbing and alignment issues on the passenger side due to the rust in the longitudinals.
The car was repainted at some point. Paint is peeling at various spots. The removable targa top is in great shape with only a minor flaw (pictured). It has a hard time locking in due the the roof gap being shorter - caused by the rust in the longs. I have door braces that will get you started with the repairs of the longs to stabilize the car. Restoration Design in Ontario sells all the necessary sheet metal to make the repairs quick and relatively easy.
The transmission shifts into all gears, will definitely need fresh bushings in the linkage to get some precision back into it. The clutch must have been replaced at some point, it feels great. The brakes have a nice firm pedal feel, car does not pull to the side under breaking.
All rubber parts including the bumpers strips will need replacing.
Original manual, Haynes manual, some old vintage mail order parts catalogs included. Passenger foot rest is with the car, one removed visor and passenger door pocket also include.
Aftermarket radio and speakers don't work.
I feel the car is worth fixing. There are a lot of good parts here.
Car has a transferable registration. NY does not issue or require a title document for cars this old. I had no problems registering the car in Fall of 2018. Car insured through Hagerty no problem.
Happy bidding, feel free to ask questions, I will do my absolute best to answer them to my knowledge. More pictures available including a short driving video.
