:Finished in stunning gunmetal metallic, the car’s paint is in excellent order, with no obvious flaws or blemishes. A black cloth top complements the paint and is in excellent newish condition. The bodywork is extremely straight and solid, the engine bay is extremely tidy, the Duralast battery appears new and the chrome bumpers and trim look fantastic. Out back is a cargo bed complete with bedliner that has kept the vehicle’s business end in excellent shape. Inside, the vehicle has been treated to a whole new interior that looks stunning, black high quality vinyl with maroon leather, contrasting with new black carpet and a matching alcantara headliner, all of which are in excellent shape. A two-spoke steering wheel faces the driver with a full set of digital gauges in the original gauge cluster but we have found that the fuel gauge only displays “EEE”. The new headliner, all new leather/vinyl door panels and the new stitched dash look excellent and complement each other perfectly.

El Caminos have a faithful following, more than 30 years after the last one rolled off of an assembly line. As one of GM’s car/truck hybrids, it offered a variety of versatile uses. These days, few El Caminos come nicer than this recently fully restored custom 1971 El Camino that we have now at MotoeXotica Classic Cars!
This El Camino was completely professionally restored recently by Lee Bumgardner’s Zoomers Automotive in Denver Colorado. Lee has been restoring classic and resto-mods for the last three decades and his builds have been featured in publications such as SuperChevy and Rodauthority. This El Camino was built for a local client with absolutely no expense spared including the new Chevrolet Performance SP383 Deluxe 383ci Engine Kit with FiTech Fuel Command Center, GM’s Connect & Cruise 4L70-E four-speed automatic transmission, exceptional paint and body work, all new fully trimmed leather/vinyl/alcantara interior, full stereo system with bluetooth and all the power options you would want such as power steering, power front disc brakes, power windows and air conditioning!
This example was made in GM’s Van Nuys, California assembly plant (VIN code L) during the fourth week of June 1971.
Finished in stunning gunmetal metallic, the car’s paint is in excellent order, with no obvious flaws or blemishes.
This El Camino is stanced just right and rolls on a staggered set of BFGoodrich Radial T/A white-letter tires, size 235/60R15 in front and 255/60R15 in back. Each tire is mounted on an American Racing, five-spoke, chrome wheel. The wheels are in excellent order while the tires are very good with better-than-average tread depth. It has a 116-inch wheelbase and a 4,100-pound GVWR.
Under the hood is a fresh Chevy Performance SP383 Deluxe 383ci Engine Kit with FiTech Fuel Command Center with optional chromed accessory drive. Chevrolet celebrates their 65 years of the Small Block with the new fuel-injected SP383 V8 crate engine, a modern-day take on the classic 383 Small Block “stroker” motor.
The SP383 V8 is based on Chevrolet Performance’s existing ZZ6 EFI crate engine and features the same high-flow cylinder heads and modern-day valvetrain. With a longer 3.8-inch stroke, though, this engine is rated at 450 horsepower and 438 pound-feet of torque. For comparison’s sake, the ZZ6 motor has a 3.4-inch stroke and makes 420 horsepower and 405 foot-pounds of torque
The SP383 breathes via Sanderson performance headers with dual exhausts and is mated to GM’s Connect & Cruise 4L70-E four-speed automatic transmission. Driver convenience features include air-conditioning, power steering from a newer GM pump, power windows and power front disc brakes.
The door panels feature a power window conversion with window crank electric switches and finishing the interior off is a custom sound system with a Kenwood X300 headunit, four Quinn speakers and a Kicker subwoofer, all of which have been custom trimmed and finished to match the interior.
The 1971 El Camino got fresh front-end styling (again shared with the Chevelle) that included large Power-Beam single-unit headlights, a reworked grille and bumper and integral park/signal/marker lights. For 1971, mandated lower-octane unleaded fuel necessitated a reduction in engine compression and GM’s A.I.R. system, a “smog pump,” was added to control tailpipe emissions.
A rebadged El Camino, the GMC Sprint debuted in 1971. It shared the same engine and transmission offerings as its Chevrolet counterpart.
Competition to this El Camino in 1971 include Ford’s Ranchero and GMC’s Sprint, along with the rest of the 1971 light pickup truck market – Chevrolet’s C10, Dodge’s D-100, Ford’s F-100, International’s 1010 and GMC’s 1000.
If you’re after one of the absolute best examples of a 1971 El Camino that was built with no expense spared, top quality craftsmanship with stylish taste that anyone and everyone will absolutely love, then this stunning El Camino should be in your garage, pronto! This car/truck will turn heads, generate smiles and thumbs-up from pedestrians and other drivers. Stop by MotoeXotica Classic Cars and check it out today!
