Seller Description

1971 Triumph Daytona. US import that comes with all relevant papers and a Pennsylvania title. Matching numbers and showing 8900 miles. Bike is extremely original, all original paint, unfortunately the L side of the tank was dented near the front of the knee pad in transit, the tank is very clean inside. Original seat cover with good foam and a very solid base. Wiring loom is unmolested and all lights/horn work as does the charging system. I added the blinkers ready for rego but all the relevant wiring and switch was already provided in the loom. Rear tyre is a K81 Dunlop and front tyre is a K81 Dunlop copy. Chain and sprockets are in good condition.I all the alloy parts have survived well with no chunks or gouges and no broken fins.

The chrome on the head rims is fairly good the other bits and pieces have some pitting. I have ridden the bike, all gears are present and the clutch and brakes work OK. Engine has good compression and doesn't blow smoke. I do have trouble starting it, but it fires up straiДЈht away with a shot of Aerostart ( could be my old legs lacking enough grunt:). Being a 71 model it has all the improvements that the early racing bikes helped develop.
The toolbox has been signed by Gary Nixon. If you are not familiar with him he won the 1967 Daytona 200 on a Triumph Daytona. He was also the AMA Grand National Champion in 1967 and 1968 representing the Triumph Factory Racing Team. He also won the 1973 US Road Racing Championship and won the the 1976 World Formula 750 Championship only to be declared runner up under some controversial circumstances . He was inducted into the AMA Hall of Fame and the Motorsports Hall of Fame. He was also in the movie On Any Sunday with Steve McQueen. He had a motorcycle shop in Pennsylvania and died in 2011.
