This is a 46 year old motorcycle completely restored in Sep2017. Actual mileage on new build is 250. Speedo reads 24k because I couldn't setoriginal back to zero. So yes, original mileage before restoration was 24k, tothe best of my knowledge.

The bike is a stock restoration with a few significant upgrades that I felt it needed to travel today's roads.
1st, the carb is an "E" model S&S shorty. Throttle was upgraded from single to double cable, meaning it's now is equipped with a return spring. Did away with what they use tocall the "dead man" throttle.
2nd, the tank is larger, still Sportster, referred to as the "KingTank", holds 3 gallons...... you'll appreciate that on road trips and isstill “period correct”.
3rd, in 1972 turn signals did not come on bikes. That began the followingyear. For safety in certain situations you'll be glad to now haveturn signals. Everyone that's seen the bike did not realize I made the upgrade,until I pointed out the tiny LED lights very strategically placed.
4th, I upgraded the headlight to a Halogen bulb but did not alter the housing inany way. You'll appreciate that upgrade for sure when night riding.
5th, upgrade was to the electrics. Points eliminated and electronic ignition installed,doing away with the old voltage regulator and installed an electronic module init's place... precisely where the original regulator was.
The minor upgrades have not altered the stock appearance or functionality ofthis old timer. If you are simply interested just as a collector, reversal ofthese changes can be done with little effort or expense. If you are looking fora new taste of old school for your regular ride... consider this is beauty.
With only 24k on the motor before rebuild many of the internals were wellwithin tolerance so they were polished and reused. The rings are only .20 overso there's plenty of room to rebuild again and again if warranted. The headswere polished and new valves, seats, and springs installed. On the cases wewelded shut 2 of the 3 drain plugs to minimize leakage. Since only one oil isrecommended for tranny, primary and motor there was simply no need for all thedrains. If you are familiar with old bikes this is one reason they all leakedso much.
