Seller Description
Up for auction a very nice Norton 850 Commando, last year and left side shift. Mileage on the odometer is shown as 2175 and I believe this to be correct. I have a clear title in my name with a box C designation, meaning MVD believed the mileage to be incorrect. They would not believe a 30 year old bike only had 2175 miles! Couldn't talk them out of it. I've owned this bike for approximately 14 years, during which time it has never been started. The bike came from an elderly gentleman's estate, being sold with along with about 20 other bikes. Tank and side covers were repainted back on '06 with a candy process and the decals being clear coated subsequent to the decal application. Paint is excellent with the exception of some "shrinkage" at the lower rear edge of the right side of the tank. I had a BSA Lightening painted at the same time, and a similar feature occurred. Shows beautifully though. Petcock and lines are new. I replaced the stock "bean can" mufflers with Norton 'peashooters" from a previous year, they are brand new. I no longer have the original mufflers. Right side handlebar switch was replaced purely for cosmetic reasons, having had brake fluid sitting on it for years. New one is of some foreign manufacture, not British. I have the original switch and will include it with the sale. I've included photos of the original front tire and date code which matches the year of manufacture, rear is the same, and wear is consistent with mileage on the odometer. Previous owner purchased this bike with 1100 miles, back in 1987, and I have a document to that effect. Bike was stored with the fuel drained from the tank and carbs. Throttle turned freely at time of purchase and still does. To be clear, BIKE DOES NOT RUN. Should it sell, the new owner will want to plan on a complete fluids exchange, (engine, trans, brakes, fork etc.) as well as the possibility of some carb work. I'm pretty sure I have the original tool kit and will include it,(if I have it!) with the sale. If the new owner is to ride the bike, I highly recommend new tires. Look carefully at the pictures, I believe you will determine this is a true low mile motorcycle. Sale includes a small box of parts with a manual and documents related to the bike. Age and life has me gravitating away from bikes now. I'll try to answer any questions promptly.
Shipping is at the buyers expense, I will cooperate as I am able for pick up. Deposit of $500.00 required within 48 hours of auctions end. Thank you for looking!
