1975 NORTON COMMANDO 850 MK3
Two-owner bike in largely original condition
This matching-numbers, two-owner 850 Commando Mk3 remains in largely original specification, with just a couple of sensible alterations from stock. Gone is the ineffective electric starter motor, its access hole neatly blanked off. The "electric assist" wasn't missed thanks to a Mikuni single-carb conversion that delivers easy, reliable fire-up via the kickstart lever. Now showing just over 28,000 miles, the Norton's top-end was overhauled several years ago, and replacement stock-style "Peashooter" mufflers were fitted. The tires have been renewed with correct Dunlop TT100 replacements. Recently the bodywork was repainted in the OEM "Union Jack" colors, but otherwise the cosmetics remain as-delivered, right down to the Lucas turnsignals. Bar-end mirrors replace the originals for a sleeker, more-sporting look.
The final iteration of the Commando line, the Mk3 is equipped with disc brakes front & rear, and federally mandated left-side shifter & right-side foot brake as is now conventional. In the current owner's care for the past 35 years, the 850 was used sparingly as he wound down his riding activities, and has always been stored well and properly looked after. Off the road for a couple of years now, the bike was running well when parked, has been on a battery charger and should require only a light recommissioning before use. The bike has a clear California title, having been non-op'ed since 2017, and is currently stored in Aliso Viejo, Southern California.
