Seller Description

Triumph T100R Daytona
1976 (P-reg)
All Original Spec.
Matching Frame and Engine Nos.
Apologies - as this listing was posted there havebeen technical errors with some photos.More will follow very soon!
This listing is for my long-adored, 1976 registered, Triumph T100R Daytona - that I have reluctantly decided to offer up for sale after over 40 years of ownership! It is a rare model, one of the last to come off the production line. Its engine and frame numbers have the prefix "JJ" - meaning it was assembled August 1974.
I bought the bike in/around 1978/9 from its first owner, and it was a bit shabby then - with surface rust beginning to show, paint flaking from the frame, and some minor scratch marks and other light damage to various parts.
It had covered around 4700 miles when I bought it, and it now has a genuine 13,003 miles on the clock … that’s around 1000 gentle miles each summer I had it on the road.(My last ride was in September 1986 - I never rode it in winter conditions).
The engine was always a great performer and only ever sweated a tiny amount of oil from the back of the barrels/crankcase joint … nothing I was ever worried about, and never got any worse. It was always totally reliable, a one-kick starter, and ran beautifully.
However, after many years of standing unused, it has now typically developed a natural “aged patina”, and is showing minor amounts of surface rusting and dulling of the paintwork, chrome and alloy surfaces – although these all do still polish up quite nicely.
Please look closely at all of the photos, as they are an important part of the description. Initial photos on the listing were taken during a recent routine clean-up - more photos will be added in the next 24hrs (camera technical fault).
Getting down to the fine detail…
The seat covering has become fragile with age and has split in places. The rubber fork shrouds, foot rest and foot lever rubbers are also deteriorated, but were always ready for replacement anyway. The long reverse-cone silencers (as fitted to Bonnevilles then) have lost their back ends, as they trapped condensation and simply rotted off over time.
The only work ever done to the engine was to replace worn ignition points, replace a damaged kickstarter pawl, and take the primary cover off to dismantle sticking clutch plates after a long storage period before riding again.
The engine has been periodically turned over whilst standing unused, to ensure it all moves and operates freely, and still has good compression to both cylinders. It has never seized. The clutch will need disassembling again before use. Gear selection is slick.
I replaced a rear tyre – due to poor handling from the original Dunlop – and also a new rev-counter driveshaft, indicator fittings and a front headlamp bulb. It still has its original front tyre and all original brake shoes!
It was always a great bike to look at and ride in its day, and will be again with a relatively small amount of servicing, restoration and standard replacements that would only be expected on a bike of this age.

Depending on your level of desire, it wouldn’t be too hard to bring up to concours standard, as it hasn’t been messed about with, it’s all there, and it’s all very sound.
All in all, this is an excellent project bike for a Triumph enthusiast with the right skills, time and equipment.
I have some new replacement fork gaiters and footrest rubbers that will come with the bike, along with MOT certificates which will verify the mileage, and of course the V5 keepers document. Anything else I can find relating to the bike will also come with it.
If you have any questions at all, please email me through ebay and I will reply asap.
Please note that the bike is being sold as seen on the photos, as stated in the description above, and as detailed in any responses given to enquiries made before the auction end.PAYMENT REQUIREMENTS:The final sale price isn’t up for negotiation after the auction is finished - and if you win the auction, when the auction ends I will require an immediate payment of a £200 non-refundable deposit to demonstrate your serious intention to purchase. No time-wasters please - serious buyers only - otherwise please don't bid.Full payment of the remaining balance is required via Paypal or bank transfer within the following 24hours of the auction end, or cash on collection. This will be discussed on payment of the deposit.
There is no warranty given or implied, as usual with private sales/purchases of this nature, and it is a no return item (unless found to be substantially different to the description given).
However, I can confirm that the mileage shown on the speedometer and given in the description above is genuine, and the whole vehicle displays only the wear and tear associated with covering that mileage, and further resulting from the period kept in storage whilst unused.
Collection of the vehicle is the buyers responsibility – I cannot deliver.I will liaise with the successful buyer and I'm quite flexible on days/times for collection, with reasonable notice.
Once again, please look closely at all of the photos and description, ask any questions you need to, and if you think its not for you but you know people who might be interested, then tell them all about it!
If you do decide to bid … well thank you kindly and good luck.
You will not be disappointed if you’re the winning bidder!

New photos added - 24thJune
As promised, I have now added three more photos up to the ebay limit of twelve.
Shame I can’t add more as I’m sure there would be interest to see them.
Look closely and you will see that the chain is not fitted and neither is the nearside rear shock absorber. Both are available, although would probably need to be replaced with new bearing in mind their age now.The shock absorber was taken off many years ago to have its spring replaced due to chrome flaking, but never got put on again as I never managed to return to riding.
Many thanks again for looking. On 28-Jun-21 at 19:40:06 BST, seller added the following information:
QUESTIONS?
I note that ebay don’t now give the option for posting questions and answers about an item, so I thought I’d add those I have had so far … here …
Q. Can you send more photos to my mobile please?A. Sorry, I don’t think that would be fair to others looking at the listing.
Q. Where are you located and do you have the V5 in your name and up to date?A. I’m about 25mins north of Newcastle upon Tyne, near the coast. Yes I have the original early single sheet V5, and it is in my name, although with an earlier home address. (I have not found this a problem before).
Q. Do you have a contact number to have a quick chat about the bike as I’m not really into endless e-mails.A.To keep this fair to everyone, I'm happy to answer email questions through ebay, and post on the listing, so everyone who is interested and bidding is operating on the same information.
Q. You say the engine has been turned over. Has it been run? Does it run now?
Many thanks.A.It was running beautifully when last ridden, but has not been fired up again since. The battery gave up the ghost many years ago, and I have been reluctant to start it in the interim just to see if it still runs, as I didn't want to cause unnecessary and troublesome condensation within the engine. That's why I have simply kept turning the engine over to ensure everything kept moving correctly. I have no reason to think it shouldn't start and run just as well again, once it has been serviced, electricals/points/timing checked, clutch freed, and new oils and battery fitted. Having stored it each winter when I did ride it, it usually took a little persuasion to get going again on first attempts to start up, but once going it was always a one-kick starter. Due to age, it may be pertinent to also examine oil seals and rubber O-rings etc before using seriously ... but wouldn't that just be a normal expectation on buying any vehicle of this age - running or not? It only has 13,000 miles on, but age is definitely a factor for such perishable items. It's all just part of the fun of owning a classic vintage bike I feel.
Hope this helps. Any other questions, please ask.
