Seller Description

This is a genuine survivor classic Airhead BMW. Don't be fooled by the 650 cc 50 HP engine. The bike is light, the 5 speed gear box shifts crisply and it is a blast to ride! Honestly, it is more fun than my R1200R! The bike is a solid base to make a cool cafe racer with a BMW that is Not junked out. It always gets attention. You won't find a better example of a classic Airhead in this price range. It is original but not perfect. If you want want a "museum piece" then pay $10K! There no dings or chips on the tank, etc. The Manxman fairing is correct for the day. Besides being rare it makes the bike what it is. That is why I bought it from the owner in Minnesota in July of 2017.
With the bike there are two binders of extensive literature of the day including what looks to be every test article on the R65. Also, original sales literature. Tires and shocks are nearly new. The battery was replaced less than a year ago. Also, I have the correct period side bag mounts but no bags. Pegs front and rear look great further testifying of the miles!
The bike was sold new in Iowa. The original owners manual shows a paper trail. It was with a gentleman in Minnesota who owned if for years and hardly rode the bike. It is titled in South Dakota and a clear title. Once in Minnesota the bike always had maintenance done by the a guy who is renown in the Minneapolis area and works on just about every BMW around that part of the Twin Cities.

This a NICE bike. It is a Looker and really gets attention when around classic BMW's or other bikes of that time period as well.
Negatives1) Lock for seat doesn't work with the ignition key. Key locks the gas cap and forks2) It is missing the original air pump it if ever had one because it was optional ($34 new from Bob's BMW).3) Small and I mean small tare on the seat - hey guys and gals it is 37 years old - OK?4) Just recently the odometer and trip meter started acting up. It will be about $200 to fix it from Texas Speedometer repairs or pay more at Palo Alto Speedometer.
It kills me to sell this motorcycle but I am moving Once moved I know I will regret selling this bike. It is just fun to ride and I smile every time it gets noticed. More than once I have come out of a restaurant and a couple of people are looking at - especially the girls! I have no clue why but the bike seems to be a "chic magnet"!
