Seller Description

Wanna Guzzi? Of course, who wouldn't want a piece of Italian made iron? Something very cool about these bikes (I have owned two now). Ask another Convert owner and they will tell you that these bikes are grossly underrated. Reliable to a fault, they will continue to run even when others bikes won't.
This listing is for a 1981 I-Convert, blue. I ride it every week. It never fails to fire up. Its a two-speedsemi-automatic with a torque converter. Low for faster acceleration and High for highway cruising (I usually keep it in high) Low is good for up to about 80 mph, but best up to 55, High if you want to make it do the ton. Note: this is not a bike you shift gears on while in motion. You should be at a complete stop before switching from one range to the other (pull in the clutch lever, shift, ease out the clutch lever slowly). Yes, it also has a clutch so you can disengage the transmission any time you like by pulling in the clutch lever. Weird, but it works great and is also great fun at stoplights when people expect you to shift it in gear before you take off. For those of you Guzzi folks out there: Yes, I believe this is a "Tonti" frame.
It does show its age (37 for those of you who are arithmetically challenged) but I have done a lot of work to keep it road worthy and would not hesitate to ride it anywhere. Here is a partial list of things I have done to it:
New Icon shocksAll new transmission/tranny cooler lines (all of them!)Switched from point ignition to Solid State (work performed by Moto Guzzi Classics)PHF carburetors completely rebuilt and synchronized (less than a year ago, and yes I have sync. sticks)Oil change every 1500 miles (just put in fresh oil with a new UFI oil Filter; less than 300 miles on the fresh oil and filter, & pan gasket)
Trans oil change every 2500 miles (Dextron III)Gearbox and rear end oil change every 3500 milesRe-usable silicone valve cover gaskets (Real-Gasket Brand)New Brake pads front and back (also less than a year on them)I replacedthe electronic petcock with a manual one and put a new gasket in the manual petcock on the other side of the tank.
Additionally, the seat is in great shape and the "Lunch Box" panniers are still intact, though they do have "new" hinges since the old ones died (Guzzi relied on the plastic and a long 2 or 3-millimeter rod to hold it together; frankly that could have been better designed for longevity). All the lights work and it putts down the road with aplomb. Again, it is a solid motorcycle. Sure the lettering is faded, but it is 37 years old, after all.

Let's just agree it's aging gracefully and has a nice patina, shall we?
I like this bike and don't have to sell it, really, but my garage is getting full (just fell into a 1995 Thunderbird) so I need room for the next project (A 1960's CZ 125). I won't be giving it away, however. If you really want it please make a serious offer. Thanks for looking.
As far as payment is concerned I will only accept checks from known U.S. banks and only release the bike after the funds have cleared the bank. CASH WORKS BEST, of course. USPS money orders will work too if you want to go that route, but again I will have to wait until the funds clear before I release the bike. You will have to be patient.
The bike is currently registered and insured in Southern California. You are responsible for pickup or shipping arrangements. Please don't ask for me to cash a check for a greater amount or some other scam. I will report it to ebay.
