The Honda Ascot, designated FT500, was sold in 1982 in the colorsMonzaRed or Black. The tank stripes and the "FT500" decal were gray and silver on the red bike and red and orange on the black bike. On American bikes, thespeedometerwas limited to 85 mph (135 km/h) aswas required, in other markets the bike received a 180km/h (112mph) speedo.[1]Theheadlightwas rectangular and so were the instruments.

The engine was a 498ccSOHC,4-valvesingle-cylinderwith 8.6:1compression ratio, and onecarburetor, producing 35PS (26kW) at 6500rpm. Thisbalance shaft-equipped engine was derived from that of theHonda XL500[de]enduromotorcycle, but tuned for highway usage through the use of avacuum carburetorand other adjustments.[2]Thetransmissionwas a 5-speed(1st=2.462:1 2nd=1.647:1 3rd=1.250:1 4th=1.000:1 5th=0.840:1), also from the XL500 but with tempered gears and a stronger chain. Stock gearing is 15/42 (3.71:1). The brakes weresingle piston discfront and rear and the bike has an electric starter, foregoing a kickstart entirely.[1]The 156kg (344lb) motorcycle had a top speed of about 150km/h (93mph) and achieved an average fuel economy of 48 mpg. This bike has been in our collection for a couple years. We are thinning the herd and this is one of the few we are letting go..
The bike has had a recent tune up, carb cleaning, new battery, new dual purpose tires and new chain. The bike starts, rides and stops as it should. Fun bike to tool around on!
There are a few minor things that should be known.. the seat has a couple small tears, the front left turn signal is cracked (still works great), the mirrors look good but are not correct and should be replaced, there is a small paint chip on the bottom front of the tank.
