Seller Description

1982 Suzuki GS1100G. Shaft drive, 4 cylinder, 4 carbs, 5 speed.
I bought this bike a couple months ago from a repo/consignment auction near Grand Rapids Michigan.
These are awesome bikes but the listed mileage really intrigued me. It was listed with .4 miles on the odometer and of course they suggested the odometer was not working. Obviously I thought the same thing but you never know. When I picked up the bike it did have .4 miles as listed but after pushing the bike out of the warehouse to my trailer the odometer read .5. This made me think thatagainst all odds the odometer was working.
The auction company stated it hasn’t ran since 1993- how they know that I don’t know and they wouldn’t tell me or even say if it was a repo or consignment. They might be guessing by the 93 license plate.
Theystated it cranks over but doesn’t start. That was disappointing knowing that a bike that hasn’t ran in so long needs special attention before starting.
I brought it home, gave it a good cleaning, changed the plugs, sprayed oil in the cylinders, drained the fuel tank and added fresh gas, charged the battery and tried to start it. It cranked over fine but only spit and sputtered until I sprayed some carb cleaner in the intake boot. It then started but only ran on two or three cylinders. Then I realized I missed a very important step - check the air box for a mouse nest. Sure enough it had one and the critters ate the foam filter. Unfortunately starting the engine sucked all that crap into the carbs.
I removed and cleaned the carbs and it started right up andidled great BUT it only runs if the choke is applied.

I added Seafoam cleaner to the tank and it is better but still needs some choke to idle.
By working the choke and throttle just right I can get it to rev up and run like itshould and I’ve been able to ride it around my neighborhood- it now has 2.4 miles on it. IT STILL NEEDS WORK TO GET IT RUNNING RIGHT.
Cosmetically it looks great - no road rash, no dents or dings, no stone chips, inner fenders are very clean and not even a dead bug on thefairing. It does have 40 years of age and weathering not unexpected for a bike sitting so long. I did strip the clearcoat from the engine cases that were delaminating and they need to be polished. I also polished the chrome which looks great but does have some light pitting. There is some fading of the tank paint.
Lights and gauges work except the fuel - the wire is disconnected from the sender and I’m not sure where it plugs in.
Appears to have the original tires that still have nipples on the edge. THEY NEED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO AGE AND CRACKS IN THE REAR TIRE FROM SITTING FLAT.
Includes a rear rack and adjustable back rest.
I have a new title in hand and in my name. There is nothing listed for the odometer reading- in the past when I bought old bikes it read “exempt” furthering the odometer mystery.
NOTE: I am not stating this bike has 2.5 miles on it - I cannot prove one way or the other and it’s most likely not correct.
This bike is not perfect orshowroom condition but it is very nice.
Must be picked up in DeWitt Michigan, 48820.On Sep-24-21 at 10:38:00 PDT, seller added the following information:Important update: After three days of heavy rain I started the bike and it only runs on the center cylinders. I had the bike covered but apparently it wasn’t waterproof and the bike was wet. It ran ok but didn’t sound right and the outside exhaust pipes only got warm as compared to the center pipes. I pulled the outer plugs and found a very weak, intermittent spark. After removing the gas tank I found what I suspected - both cylinders run off the same coil. The seals around the plug wires into the coil are cracked so I suspect water intrusion or it may have been the running problem all along.
I will investigate more but right now you are bidding on a NON-RUNNING BIKE. On Sep-25-21 at 07:46:55 PDT, seller added the following information:UPDATE #2 : Since I didn’t have a spare coil I put the bike back together and it started right up and runs on all four cylinders. No idea what happened or what fixed it but for now it’s running and I’m done messing with it
STILL NEEDS CHOKE/CARB WORK
