The good
Rare mid wheel base 40 series. Running a turbo’d 3B and 5 speed gearbox (think it’s a 60 or 70 series one with the appropriate transfer as its vacuum operated). Air Conditioning (degassed), strong arm steering, 24 volt electrical system, 2 x 40 series rear bench seats in the rear, 172k’s on the speedo, sports seats up front (but not that comfortable!), original head lining, original under bonnet lining, fibreglass steps and front guards, new brake master cylinder, new engine mounts, new shock absorbers, chassis has been painted recently. New shackles and bushes and a new clutch master cylinder and 2 new shock absorbers in the rear luggage compartment
The bad.
There is rust in the usual 40 series places. Drivers foot well, bonnet lip, 40 vent panel - both sides, rear door corner area, rear corners of the rear wheel arch, the gutters on the inside (but Homs Toyota Parts has parts for you). Photos show the areas of rust. I have tried to get a photo of most of it. Somewhere in it's life someone cut a few inches off the area below the doors. Sheet metal will fix that.
What you get
This vehicle is ideally suited for a restoration. A great project to work on with the children if you want or just do it yourself. These MWB vehicles were mainly a Japanese Domestic market item and are rare outside Japan. They offer room in the back for a seat and your luggage behind that as it has approximately 12" (300mm) more interior space in the rear area than your traditional 40 series short wheel base. The wheelbase is 96" or 6" longer than a 40 series SWB and offers the best of both worlds.
I was planning on dropping it onto a Patrol SWB chassis as the 96” wheelbase is ideal for it but realised how rare these things are so I put that on hold. Then I found an even rarer MWB version so this one needs to move on to find a new owner to lovingly restore and enjoy the use of.
These MWB 40’s are sought after in certain markets and would only be a couple in Australia and some restorations are getting very good money overseas. For those going what the heck is MWB 40 series, this is a good read. https://bj44.wordpress.com/about/

In Australia it will require an authorised vehicle engineer to look at the car due to being an import post 1975, but given the other 40's on the roads here that shouldn't be too much of an issue as it has all the same features.
