Seller Description

1984
Mercedes
Benz
500 SEC Coupe
VIN: WDBCA44A1EA[hidden information]

Here’s another rare,
great-running & driving Mercedes we’ve acquired recently for our Ebay
customers. This nice coupe sold new at a Birmingham Benz Dealership
and spent the next 30 years in Alabama before arriving here in Seattle to drive our
salt-free Pacific Northwest roads. From the moment I first laid eyes on
this clean car, the lifetime respect and care given over the decades was
pretty obvious. Fewer than 30,000 miles
have been added in the last 25 years. Reluctantly,
the coupe was turned over to us a short time to help find the next long-term caretaker.
I’ve got to tell you, having driven it daily for the past week, what a
treat! Where else will you find this
kind of luxury, vintage style, safety, mechanical reliability AND
ground-pounding power wrapped up in one gorgeous ride? Please feel free to contact me with questions
or to make an offer. My name is Mark and my direct phone number is 206/[hidden information]. You’re welcome and encouraged
to make an appointment to inspect and drive the 500SEC
here at my Auburn warehouse facility.
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION
Ever driven one of these Mercedes
with the powerful dual-cam 5.0-liter V8?
Smooth is the word for sure. Smooth powerful acceleration.
Smooth handling in the curves or on the highway, too. There’s no other Benz like the W126 chassis
coupe and I prefer them to even the legendary “6.9” 450SEL sedans of a decade
earlier. I’ve also always considered
these cars as really the last hand-built, truly high-quality Mercedes and have
heard others say the same thing! Look over the photos and I’m sure you’ll agree with me. All were taken today, July 27, 2020. What you see is the
result of a wash and vacuum only. It’s
obviously been allowed to spend the majority of its life garaged because the
overall interior and exterior condition is great. Rust? Please, this Benz hates rust and
you WON’T find a thing to worry
about here. Yes, the western Washington State is famous for rain, but our winter roads are never salted. We only have one
or two days of light snow each year. Everyone panics and stays
home. Climb over, under and all around this rig - I know you’ll come up
smiling!!
Having personally owned more than twenty Mercedes over the years, I’ve
developed a great appreciation for their style, mechanical reliability and
overall driving experience. THIS CAR RUNS OUT JUST AS IT WAS MEANT TO.
I’VE NEVER DRIVEN ANY VINTAGE 500-series SEC THAT I’VE LIKED BETTER!! I’m
convinced you’ll be proud to own and drive it as well.
CONDITION:In total, this is a
clean, well-cared-for, smoke-free car. I take pride in the vehicles we
sell and feel that you should know as much about it as possible.
Accordingly, here is a list of the good and also small things needing attention:
Turn the key and the powerful 5.0L fuel injected V-8 engine fires right up
every time!The automatic transmission
shifts strongly and just as it should. In my experience, the car
idles, runs and drives like a Mercedes is built to – strong, immediate oil pressure, good battery and charging system, no
brake pull to either side or alignment issues!I’ve put on
almost 100 miles over the past few days including freeway cruising at 65 MPH.The
paint is in great overall condition having received a good quality respray to
the original factory brown metallic color sometime in the past few years. There are NO front-end rock chips, paint scrapes or scratchs as might typically be expected. Genuinely nice chrome and exterior trim all
around, too! The front fenders, doors, rear quarters, floor pans and trunk
are all solid; in fact, the entire undercarriage appears in fine condition for
a 36-year-old car! No other exterior
body flaws to point out. The factory wheels are straight and true, though there is
some chrome pitting. They’re wrapped with matching 235/60R15 radials, each with
at least 70-80% remaining tread. The jack and full-size spare are stowed in the trunk.Take another good
look at the interior pics. Hop in and
feel comfortable sitting on these firm front buckets for hours. There’s NO wear on either the drivers or passengers
side surfaces. The form-fitted rears haven’t
suffered the fate of most vintage Benz with still-excellent original leather as
pictured. You’ll also find the original factory
first aid kit still tucked away in its package shelf case. The heater/defroster system blows warm & the
cold, thought the A/C system will need to be looked over to determine what’ll
be needed to make it function. There’s
no evidence of any water leakage on the headliner. I find that the sunroof wants to stick when being
opened, so I’ve not attempted more than a few inches and recommend it be
serviced before trying any further. The
passenger front window also is sticky going up (all three others work properly). A new power switch is needed for the driver's seat though I've been able to manually move it forward and back using my trusty DeWalt drill to run the cable system. My only other interior complaint is the dash wood veneer has peeled and come loose from age. You’d think that
based on the initial cost and overall quality of a Mercedes that the Daimler factory
would have little difficulty coming up with a quality, long-lasting stereo. Even their modern vehicles seem to have radio issues so it’s not surprising that the former owner changed out the
original Becker for a modern Panasonic stereo AM/FM/CD changer. As a
respected Ebay seller with many satisfied
online buyers, I want you to bid with confidence knowing that this Benz runs
and drives as it should AND that it is being properly represented to you! Please don’t be upset if I miss a minor flaw
or some small issue comes up on the car as NO used vehicle is perfect. Having said that, I won’t hesitate to drive long
distance in this Mercedes today! Please check the
photos over closely and call me with any questions BEFORE you place a
bid! You’re encouraged to stop by, inspect the car at my Auburn,
Washington warehouse and take it for a test drive. As always, it is being
sold “as-is, where-is” with a free & clear Washington State title.A Few Additional Terms and Conditions:Because of the amount
of money involved with a vehicle purchase, I reserve the right to cancel your
bid if you have any negative feedback. I
also ask that potential bidders with a feedback rating of five or fewer
transactions on Ebaycontact me before placing a bid. Please do so directly through the Ebay message system or, as outlined above, call me at 206/[hidden information] anytime. My name is MARK.Full payment is due by cash (in-person only), a wire
transfer or other certified funds within seven days of the auction
closing. I can accept credit/debit cards
but will need to first send the buyer an invoice from our card processor (SQUARE) with the
3.25% fee charged by them added. Please
remember you are bidding to buy, and I fully expect the winning bidder to
fulfill their Ebay contract! You’re not
bidding to hold or then come inspect and test-drive the vehicle later -- You’re
more than welcome to do this before the auction ends.If you decide to have the Mercedes shipped home, there are numerous
vehicle transportcompanies to choose from. While delivery and the company
chosen are ultimately the responsibility of the BUYER, I ship vehicles regularly
and have access to the nationwide Central Dispatch system. I can check to see what typical delivery
costs have been to your area recently and we can then post a transport offer
for the car at a fair price. Usually, a
shipper is lined up within just a few days.

You’ll pay the transporter COD when they arrive with the vehicle. No upfront deposit or other hassles.TheMercedes
can be stored free of charge at my location for up to fourteen days after the
auction ends assuming full payment has been received. After that period storage is $20 per day.
