You are looking at a real 1993 Mustang Cobra. These cars are rare and hard to find with just 4,993 made. An amazing piece of automotive history to own.
The good: This Cobra is upgraded with a carbon fiber hood, some suspension upgrades as well as a 347 stroker with a T-5 transmission. I do not know if the engine or transmission are original to the car and exactly what modifications where done as the performance modifications where done years ago by a previous owner. Southside Machine rear control arms and tubular subframe connectors are present as well as aftermarket struts and springs up front. The engine bay has a wire-tuck and has been covered with additional Sheetmetal on the sides and sprayed black to make the engine bay look cleaner with engine harness in the cabin and the battery now in the trunk. The paint job looks to be an early 2000s re-paint in most of the car but shows factory paint on a few others (front bumper). There are signs of touch-up paint in a few places. The engine runs and idles well through a full exhaust with h-pipe and flowmaster mufflers.
Throughout the ad I will focus on the issues as this is a project car that with some time and money will be an amazing and valuable beauty. I want you to know everything up front so you know what you are getting yourself into. Please call/text for any additional information.
Body: Overall a straight and clean body, no visible rust holes/rot anywhere on the body of the car; with a good professional detail the car will look great but upon close inspection will show flaws. Rear-right fender has some damage, front-left fender has a small rust bubble, cowl section behind the hood has another small rust bubble,front bumper has factory paint and a good bit of touching-up on the passenger side and the driver door has a 1/2" by 4" scratch that is through the paint and a few minor dents near the key hole. You really have to look close to find issues as from 10 feet or more she looks great. Windshield has a long crack in it and will need to be replaced eventually.
Unibody/Chassis: This is where a combination of oxidation and improper jacking have taken their toll the most. Will focus on the issues in this section: the rear torque boxes, especially the lowers need care as passenger side has a small tear and both show signs of improper jacking, there are a few spots where the surface rust is beginning to peel back the undercoat, the oxidation is focused around a few seams but is not yet rotting or holing through the metal. Interior: looks decent and is holding up relatively well for the age. Currently missing rear seat bottoms that were thrown away during a recent move. The main issues is that the front driver seat will need the front-left stud and rear left bolt replaced. I would also recommend that the wire-tuck be cleaned up as there are wires all behind the dashboard that could use some organization.
Wheels/Tires/Suspension: Attention is needed here; outside of the car now having OEM Ford 1993 Mustang Cobra wheels, the car will need an alignment as well as to have the drivetrain adjusted (k-member to be re-bolted down more towards the driver side) as it is currently sitting about 1/2" too far to the right from the 2019 accident where someone hit the car in the back right corner of the car (minor body damage to the rear-right fender well can be seen in pics) which made the front left wheel clip a curb. The current southside machines rear lower control arm on the passenger side likely needs a bushing as that side of the car sits about 1/4" to 1/2" lower than the driver side.
Drivetrain: This is where attention is also needed. The engine itself is a 347 stroker (not sure if it is the original cobra engine) that was commented by the previous owner to be making over 400hp. The engine runs and idles ok but startup can be a bit rough at times (likely a dirty IACV that I will clean in the coming days). Cold compression is 133 in most cylinders except 120 and 125 in two cylinders which is healthy for a non high compression motor. The transmission needs a rebuild, 1st and 2nd gear pop-out of gear often and there is whining when attempting to drive it. I would consider the car as running but not driving until the transmission is fixed.
I really wish I could finish the car but need to re-purpose the funds on home and family expenses that are taking a priority right now.Don't miss your chance to own a true collectible classic that has been skyrocketing in value.
