Less than 2% of R8 production cars were spec'd with the gated manual 6 speed transmission. You won't be able to get this combination of a naturally aspirated V-10 engine with a gated 6 speed manual outside of this generation R8 or its Italian cousin, and it will be a thing of the past going forward on cars in general. The clutch in mine was changed at about 56k KMS (35k Miles) when the transmission needed to be pulled for a warranty repair. More info below.
Don't be put off by the fact this R8 has slightly higher KMs than some of the other ones out there; there are some benefits to this fact.Having put about 60k KMS on this car over the years (more than most R8 drivers) this car has had about every R8 issue that can and will come up over an R8's life already happen and be addressed and corrected by Audi R8 techs. A lot of these items are not cheap fixes, so if you are considering any out of warranty R8, these are things you may want to ask about and consider.Some of the major items are:
1) All new wiring harnesses, fuel pressure sensors, left and right bank ECU's, both high pressure fuel pumps and low pressure tank pump. A lot of the earlier V10s had issues with misfires and other fuel system errors. All in all it took a couple a years to get it all cleared up by switching to the newer generation parts.
2) AC system was originally prone to leaking, mine has been repaired and parts replaced.
3) Earlier model coolant tank is prone to bursting at the seams - Replaced
4) MMU head-unit and backup camera and wiring updated
5) Early clutch slave cylinder was prone to leaking. This cannot be topped up and must be brought in each time the warning comes on. It is located inside the bell housing of the transmission and requires the transmission to be pulled from the car. This happened at about 55k KMS, and even though it didn't even have close to 50% wear (The V10 Clutch is very durable, the V8 clutch is not) I opted to replace the clutch pack and throw-out bearing since it was out and all pulled apart ($5k just in parts) Launch mode has never been used on this clutch, and only 2 times in the entire time I have had the car.
As stated, the car still has over a year of Audi Platinum warranty until July 2020 or 100,000 kms. I will pay to transfer the warranty to the new owner.
This car is in excellent shape inside and out, there are however a few cosmetic blemishes:
1) Curb rash on the front passenger wheel
2) Some rock chips on the front fascia and hood
3) Pirelli Pzero's are very sticky and kick up a lot of sand and road grit. This is common with any super car that uses them, and as a result they have a tendency to sand-blast any painted surfaces that return around into the inside of the wheel well: eg. the edge of the lower rocker panel.
Please Note:
1) The car was stored for almost 5 months, as a result the rotors show oxidation still as the pictures were taken before it was driven.2) The built in radar detector was from the previous owner and is not operational.3) I have included a copy of the Audi Vehicle Health Report that was done in November before the car was serviced and stored for the winter.4) The Major service overhaul (spark plugs etc.) was carried out when the transmission was also pulled.5) Mileage subject to change as I will still drive it until it is sold.
