1959 MERCURY MONTEREY1959 was one of the
best years for Automotive styling in the USA with the height of the space race
in full flight, it bred some of the wildest and most iconic automotive designs
the world has ever seen. This 1959 Mercury Monterey 2 door sedan is certainly no
exception.This is one rare and
unique cruiser, you certainly aren’t going to pull up beside one at your local
car show. The car has been in fully restored many years ago and had been part
of a large private collection for the last 15 years or so before being sold to
its current owner in 2019.The paint and body
work are in good condition all round finished in a striking red colour with
white roof. The styling is wild with plenty of chrome and stainless trim which
is all in great condition. The windscreen is unique and stretches from the top
of the roof and then dips low with a low dash for greater visibility. The
roofline is the cool kid of the 50s car world with it’s cap on backwards with
high windscreen in the front and overhang in the rear over the unique wrap
around rear window. The outside is finished with a big booty continental kit on
the rear and cruiser style wheel spats giving the car a long sleek “Jetson’s”
style look.Under the bonnet is a
super solid 383ci MEL V8 engine with recently rebuild carburettor. The cooling
system has been gone through with a new water pump and refurbished radiator.
The Automatic transmission is the original item and shifts smoothly down the
road. The car has had some recent work done to ensure the car is safe and reliable
to drive. This included the brakes being completely rebuild with new master
cylinder and wheel cylinders. The entire front end of the car was pulled apart
with all new bushes and various steering components replaced.Inside has been
refinished back to the original style and there is a fair bit going on.

There
are different textures and fabrics around with a mix of cool stitched vinyl and
fabric fresh out of your grandma’s lounge room. It’s a cool funky place to be
and is super spacious with big bench seats front and rear. The dash is the
centre piece with its waterfall style step down gauge cluster that is unique to
this vehicle. The dash is padded and set very low and far forward to give
greater space within the cabin.
This is a fantastic
example of a big body 50s cruiser that is unique enough that you wont have to
worry about the guy next door rocking up in one. The car has been nicely
restored and is loaded with quirky styling and features. If you want a cool 50s
American cruiser that’s been nicely restored but different to what everyone
