Seller Description

ASTON MARTIN DBS VANTAGE 5 SPEED MANUALAston Martin introduced the DBS as a replacement for the DB6. in 1968. Designed from the outset to be powered by Aston Martins own V8. early engine development problems meant that the DBS was first announced with a 4 litre 6 cylinder. as fitted to the current production DB6. Widely acclaimed. there were a total of 828 built between 1967 and 1972. The DBS became available in late 1967. though series production commenced in quantity from 1968. The DBS was designed from the outset to carry 4 adults with luggage at speed and in considerable comfort and style. While carrying over many features from the DB6. the DBS came with independent rear suspension. using a De Dion rear axle arrangement; inboard rear disc brakes. but carried over the front suspension with up rated springs and dampers from the DB6. Brakes were ventilated discs front and rear to reflect the 140 mph performance for which the car was designed. The engine was identical to the engine currently fitted to the DB6 and came with the same gearbox and final drive ratio. The styling of the car was a complete departure from the Touring design of the DB4. 5 and 6. Styled by William Towns. it was shortened but considerably wider at 6ft. The platform chassis was essentially re-dimensioned to suit the new V8. which was launched in 1969 and produced as from 1970. It was built in the same way as its sister model. the DB6. with its outer aluminium shell. hand formed and clenched around a similar steel sub structure. While sharing most mechanical features with the DB6. the DBS came with 4 wheel independent suspension. Rear De Dion Tube suspension endowed the car with a notably more comfortable ride and improved handling. The all wheel disc brakes included inboard rear discs. a departure from previous practice with production cars. The car on offer here was first registered on April 21st 1971 being supplied to its first owner by Aston Distributors Limited of Birmingham at a total cost of £6274. 20. The invoice shows One ASTON MARTIN D. B. S. Vantage SALOON. FINISHED IN FIESTA RED WITH BLACK LEATHER. FITTED WITH POWER STEERING. RADIOMOBILE RADIO AND TWO FRONT SEAT BELTS. Chassis No. DBS/5635/R Engine No. 400/4663/VC Registration No. XON 5J Road Fund License and the fitting of two spot lamps were also included on the invoice.

On November 11th 1978 XON 5J was acquired by its second owner and subsequently by its current owner on June 13th 2007. The extensive file on XON 5J includes all MOTs from 1978 confirming the current mileage of under 70. 00 miles. In May 2008 Brooklands Motor Company embarked on a restoration on XON 5J which over more than 3 years included a complete body off rebuild ensuring that every spec of rust in the steel sub structure was attended to and subsequently treated to ensure rust will no longer be a problem on XON 5J. The interior has been totally re-upholstered in the finest quality leather. All bright work has been either re-polished. if stainless steel or re-chromed. if originally chrome plated and stainless steel bumpers have been fitted. Stainless Steel wire wheels are fitted along with Michelin tyres. Mechanically XON 5J is in very good order having covered such low mileage and has been well maintained over the years. The engine has recently been serviced and maintains factory specified oil pressure at all speeds. The gearbox shifts as it should and all other mechanical components are in good order. XON 5J still retains its original engine. gearbox and rear axle making it quite unique these day when so many cars retain so few of their original components. With the values of the DB4 . and 6 escalating to such heights XON 5J surely represents a sound investment being one of the last series of cars to be hand built under the ownership of David Brown and fitted with the renowned Tadek Marek designed 6 cylinder engine.
