Seller Description

1971 BSA Firebird Scrambler
A very original machine with matching engine & frame numbers and with all of the Firebird Scrambler features including folding footrests, sump bash plate, high level exhausts, heat shield etc.

Not many of these 'high-pipe' street scramblers were made - and this is one of the last built.
If I'm decoding the engine & frame numbers correctly (from the BSA Owners website machine dating service) she was built in July 1971, making her one of the last 1971 'model year' bikes.
Arguably in the best colour scheme of black frame, with black mufflers and orange/white tank and orange side covers (the earlier Dove Grey frame was not very well received when new...).
The Firebird has fantastic new (and expensive!) paintwork to the tank and side covers, new mufflers from the UK, a new heatshield sourced from the US and a recent battery. She also has a very sensible upgrade in the form of a remote oil filter.
The bike is a real head turner and easily good enough to win a trophy in a local show, maybe more.
The previous owner had rebuilt the engine with new bearings, valves, guides, rings etc. and it starts easily (1st or 2nd kick) and she runs very well with 13,862 Klm's showing. Forks were also rebuilt with new bushes and seals.
All the electrics work, the seat is in great condition and the all the chrome is excellent (with the original Dunlop wheel rims).
If you've read this far, you'll probably know that the conical hub brakes are 'of their time' so nothing like today's disc brakes, a new set of brake shoes might help there.
And if you wanted to put the bike on the road, then plan on 2 new tyres, as the ones on there have sidewall cracks from ageing. Other than that, the bike needs nothing - except a new home...

The wrong seat and a bit too much chrome and polish on that one, but you get the idea!
I have a video 'walk around' and another of the bike ticking over and can send them to anyone who is interested.
Questions and inspection are welcome - but before the end of the auction please.
Thanks for looking and good luck if you decide to bid.
