Only 125,875 KILOMETRES. (Speedo in kms and miles... Odometer in Kms)
That equates toONLY 81,189 miles.
*** Mileage is correct, true, and genuine. *** This Suburban is remarkably well documented. Papers supporting provenance are organizedin a file. They cover everything from brand new to current.
Suburban is located in Calgary Alberta Canada(approximately 3 hours directly north of Montana). (Ebay does not have provision for people with multiple residences). Because it is domestically built, over 25 years old, and antique status... IT IS FREE OF ALL TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS. Ironically, the only special paper it requires is apieceof paper that stating it is exempt from restrictions and free to travel.
UNRESTORED, LOW MILEAGE, ORIGINAL CARS ARE THE BENCHMARK IN AUTOMOTIVE COLLECTING:Now, while this isn't entirely 100% original, I’ve tried my best to preserve it’s authenticity, while bringing it’s reliability up to date. Most importantly, I haven't compromised certain signature characteristics. This is an absolutely choiceresto-driver quality resurection that hasn’t had it’soriginality unnecessarilydisturbed .
WHAT, WHERE, WHY….
Being relatively small-time enthusiastic hobby collectors of some very nice classic cars (less than a dozen) that we veryseldom use, we wanted a super cool vintage SUV foroccasional trips to the cabin.
Goal was to have acollector vehicle that we could actually and truly enjoy using on short weekend jaunts as a family. Our cars are periodically used but, mostly eye candy, used only for short drives and shows. The search began for a family sized, light duty, 4x4.
Before embarking on our search, we had certain criteria that we chose adherence to. The criteria were relatively simple… or so we initially thought. We wanted something undisturbed. Our agenda was locating a classic SUV that nobody has repainted, orunnecessarily tinkered with. We wanted something nostalgic and original, heavy on reliability but, with a decent amount of authenticity and pedigree. Eventually, our search bought us to this Suburban. It took much longer than we could have expected but, success....

. We bought it online and had it delivered to us.
When purchased, the Suburban had a seized engine (from sitting a very long time) but, solid body and gorgeous interior. The paint was sunbaked on the roof and faded elsewhere.... It was perfect !!!
Mechanical components/systems:Over the course of the next several years, we had nearly every mechanical component and system serviced (if it wasservice-able) and/or replaced (if it were replaceable). This includes, but is not limited to the following: New engine (and ALL related components), transmission, transfer case, differentials, brakes, suspension, steering…. It’s a very long list.
Exterior:The exterior was of heavy importance to us. We wanted to keep it as original as possible and undisturbed. The original paint waswet sanded by hand and machine polished to a beautiful glass-like shine in many stages from heavy compounds to near butter smooth. The lower body area was treated to a lightly textured color-matched truckbed-liner material. This was for function, longevity, and durability. The sunburnt roof was of particular focus. I wanted to enhance that gorgeous time-given patina. After being handwet sanded and polished to a much more aggressive degree than the rest of the body, we had the roof clear coated. The final product is absolutely stellar.
Going with the vintage theme, we chose to go with a very popular 70’s look, and put a familytruckster type woodgrain (available on some Suburban Estate models) on the middle insert area. After searching many differentcolours and patterns of woodgrain, we made the perfect choice. It is a spectacular VINTAGE look that has gotten endless compliments.
*** PleaseNote ***Irealize the "patina" look isn't for 100% ofeveryone. IF it isn't for you, we can have the roof refinished for a cost of $750. This would be done immediately upon transfer of title and not cause any delay in shipping. In an effort to be as thorough as possible, I have taken liberty and measures to ensure availability and space at the bodyshop it would tentatively be going to. You will need to advise me as soon as possible at end of sale if you are the successful buyer.
Interior:The gorgeous red interior needed nothing whatsoever. To me, the interior is the most intimate part of a vehicle. It is the part that you and your family are in direct physical contact with. We had it steamed and shampooed very thoroughly. Everything on the interior is untouched original. It isabsolutely remarkable how nice the interior is.
So, why in the world are these nutty people selling it? :-)
Simply put…. Space and time. Each time we’ve made it to the cabin in the past several years, it’s been a last-minute venture. We just jumped into whatever vehicle was on the driveway and drove there for the day. We haven’t even stayed 1 night in the past years. Our kids have soccer games and other interests. For travelling, we have a giant diesel pusher motorhome. This Suburban has not been used for it’s intended purpose…. Not even once! Our styles and tastes have evolved and focus changed. Now, we are moving to a new home with a 12-car attached garage. All bayswill be occupied by lifts and what is remaining of our diminishing car collection (only the sentimental value and heirloom vehicles). We have 2 more vehicles to sell and my wife has her eyes on a convertible Corvette. Although it was a consideration at one point, I am not going to build an accessory out-building to house just this Suburban and a couple others. A 200k building for 100k of vehicles is like 20 dollar laces on 5 dollar shoes. So, after a long process, and even longer dollars…. The Suburban is for sale.
Difficult decision. Collectibility VS.Storage space.
Hagerty Collector Car Insurance has a reputable rating system. They have sourced data and compiled a list of their Top-25 Collector Vehicles for 2019. The 1[hidden information] Suburban sits at an esteemed #2 on that list !!!! Hagerty suggests that the meteoric rise in value for vintage SUV’s is led by the 1[hidden information] Ford Bronco but, immediately and closely followed by the Suburban. Further down this list are Chevelles, Mustangs, and Challengers. Their list is not limited to domestics. On the same list are Ferrari, Porsche, and others. Unbelievably, number 3 position is owned by the’78-79Ford Bronco. Once again, and believe it or not…. Second from the very top of this list, ahead of Pontiac GTO, ahead of Plymouth Barracuda…... is the Chevy Suburban.
The way the Hagerty list works is, as follows…. Hagerty gives individual vehicle ratings from 0 to 100 points. Simply put, a classic or collector vehicle with a rating of 50 points is stagnant in value. Anything 51 points and over is appreciating in value. As mentioned, these Suburbans are all the way near the top. In fact, it is #2.
We invested a lot, and had everything done professionally. Everything was done to pretty highstandards but also, pretty high costs. If values continue to rise, the Suburban will rise to the level of investment we have put into it. I am aware of this. For now though…. It’s pay to store it inside somewhere, where storage costs may exceed appreciation, or sell. I’m not prepared to wait. As stated, our time has become and issue, storage has become a concern, and we have yet to use this for it’s purpose even once. I’ve enjoyed driving the kids to school in it but, even that was only once. I may take it for one last drive for sentimentality this week, before the auction ends.
UNRESERVED:Now, as stated, I am selling this Suburban absolutelyUNRESERVED. Starting price is 250 dollars. Asides from helping arrange your shipping, I have no time to take 99 more pictures, or have 2-hour long conversations. It's probably a misnomer to say I don't care about price, but I am knowingly sacrificing dollars to put more emphasis on a hassle-free and quick sale. This could be a great deal for someone, ,as long as they are genuine and sincere. As such, I am not going to get into long drawn out discussions as to whether it's a 8.5/10 condition, or 9/10. Let's just call this a 1/10. Perspectives vary so, for ease of sale, please disregard everything else and assume this Suburban is an awful wreck salvage-value scrap project vehicle with worn out tires, poor exhaust, broken and missing pieces, and needing everything. My goal is to avoid insincere and zero-feedback bidders who will not follow through with their commitment. My other goal is to find somebody genuine, who will really appreciate this incredible Suburban, save some time this week during the sale, and devote more to helping the new owner afterwards with arranging their delivery.
Also, very important….review our feedback please. Each is for a 40+ year old car! You’ll see that getting every last dime of money isn't my objective. Money we have. We do not have time. Money usually comes relatively easy. Sometimes money goes easy too (lol), but... it can be replaced.Time cannot.
During our time on eBay, we've figured out a few things...We learned that 2 very important things arecommunicationandprocedure. Our little procedure actually focuses on communication. It goes as follows:After auction, we ask for your buyer's information. You supply. We fill in transfer papers and scan/send to you. You confirm spelling and information correct. You go to your bank, and send funds. We validate receipt. We begin on shipping,...keeping you informed every step..You receive your cool vintage Suburban,You leave us a fabulous feedback,We're not interested in Paypal or deposits... If you want this Suburban, I'm sure you know the value of what you are looking at. You'll also probably want it enough to be sincere. Our procedure is simple. Besides 3 main things (information, payment, delivery), it focuses heavily on clear and concise back/forth volley of communication. That's important. I realize I'm somewhat the anti-salesman and have taken intentional strides to heavily under-represent this vehicle. That's fine. Of importance to us right now is a smooth sale to a genuine buyer. If you are bidding, please be serious as I am and understand our adherence to this little system/procedure. It's to help both of us. If, for any reason, you cannot adhere to this procedure, please let us know BEFORE BIDDING. OR,....IF YOU HAVE ZERO FEEDBACK OR ARE NEW TO EBAY YOU MUST CONTACT ME BEFORE BIDDING.Otherwise, I will cancel your bid.
If you don't want to potentially risk losing out, and would like to take another route by MAKING AN OFFER, please contact me. About 1/3 of our auctions have in fact actually ended with me accepting an offer. I always appreciate the early-bird approach.
DELIVERY:...to most states and destinations is in the $1500+ range. Please keep that in mind. Budget for at least this amount. Texas and Florida, and other far southeastern states, are obviously a bit more at minimum $2250-ish. Any required inspections, certifications, registrations, paperwork, or anything else are the buyer's responsibility. I don't know the rules in each particular state so, am selling as per Alberta rules. My wife has become pretty good at setting up shipping and, is happy to assist. Rest is up to you. Payment is by bank transfer, US account to US account. As stated, I don't ask for Paypal. Once payment is received, everything else is ready to proceed from there.
CALLS:If you'd like to speak over the phone, I'm happy to hear from you. Please write and we'll make arrangements.
If you are fromOVERSEAS,please know we have shipped long distances many times. We are happy to assist. Since beginning to narrow down ourinadvertent collection a couple years ago, we've sold to England, France, Germany, Holland, Slovenia, as well as theMiddle East and New Zealand.
Now, Ibelieve I’ve covered everything I can think of.I suppose sellingunreservedis a little like yanking off a band-aid. This is likely the 2nd or 3rd last vehicle we will be selling so I'd like to get this over with quickly.
With that said, here goes…………..
