In 1966 you know you made it if you owned a Imperial. It was the American top luxury car. Even today the "old man" of Pawn Stars owned a 1966 Imperial. Youtubes famous "Hoovies Garage" Tyler owns a 1966 Imperial Convertible. Jay Leno owns a 1967 Imperial hardtop.
My Imperial here has only 59,376 miles. Previous owner was a mechanic with his own lift in his garage. Car has been upgraded to Transistor Ignition, safer dual master cylinder, 3rd brake light and a tachometer. Previous owner here (a mechanic) pictured on left with his garage in back.
Like new interior with leather/cloth seats, original carpet, real wood inserts on dash and doors. Translucent deluxe tilt steering wheel.
The engine is a 440 Rebuilt unit by Chrysler in 2005 (sticker on motor) with 3000 miles on it. New water pump.
New starter, upper and lower ball joints replaced, 4 new shocks, 8 new plugs, Just had the heavy duty Alternator rebuilt at cost $189.Best of all stainless steel exhaust. Positrac differential.
Bullet proof Torque Flite Transmission changes smoothly (tran weeps a bit over time,needs new pan gasket)All 4 power windows work perfectly and all power equipment. Fantastic heater. .No rust (surface only common on any car) and a real strong box frame. Built like a tank. One repaint with no dings. Chrome bumpers excellent and interior chrome. Working am n fm converter radio and working power antenna.
AC unit functions fine but has to be updated. My mechanic Dave says a few fittings has to be changed before it can be recharged with R12a.Cons..nothing serious..3 items
The 4 barrel carb choke rod sticks, so it was disconnected. Imperial starts fine in summer and idles smoothly at 700 rpm.
Just one spot on right corner front fender has some bubbling. Rest of car perfect. Gas gauge not working. (have trick for testing level)
