This Datsun 1600 is not as far from roadworthy as it looks. Of course it will require some time and attention. The engine was upgraded to an L18 in the past and was worked for performance with an A87 head , Crane cam, Weber carby, extractors, Scorcher distributer and electronic ignition. It was fitted with a 5 speed gearbox from a six cylinder Datsun, and a 240k steering wheel. The engine goes great and has heaps of power. Was run a couple of weeks ago and new oil and filter fitted. Still running petrol from bottle under hood as fuel tank should be flushed after 22 years not running. It has contemporary mags and wide tyres from about 1979. These mods coupled with its independent rear suspension, which was standard to it means it is still well able to handle the modern traffic and especially in view of its very high power to weight ratio weighing a mere 900 kgs.Jay Leno the famous American car guy says that the 510 as they refer to them in the US is fast becoming the next most rare and collectable car after the 1957 Chevrolet.Bidders are encouraged to drop in and see it, and to understand that the car is not ready to be just taken to the mechanic for a roadworthy. It will suit somebody with the time to remove guards etc and bang them straight and to repair a bit of rust, some bad spots under left sill and right rear guard, whether properly or with rust converter and bog and to replace anything that needs it. It's been sitting for 22 years and so the master cylinder rubbers etc have dilapidated and so on. (Some new parts supplied )I regret that I won't get the time now to fix and enjoy it myself.
