Description
Seller description
ESSEX 1929 (Challenger) Sedan . An untouched original item ,having been garaged and protected from weather for all of its life . No rust to repair, or parts to find . Equipped with rare spoke- wire- wheels option it presents as a very grand vehicle indeed equipped with the iconic and powerful Super Six engine . Whilst it is a vehicle for restoration, the bodywork and panels are all straight and free from rust, or any significant damage , making for easy progress .The vehicle has never had any accident damage at all .
It retains its original paintwork and pinstriping !
It is false economy to start a restoration with a wreck . By far this is the best i have ever seen .
The upholstery is still intact and in original condition showing exactly as it was at the time ; door panels etc explain exactly how they were done . Limosines were upholstered in Moquet at the time when touring cars had leather . Moquet is the same as upholstery velvet. The engine has not been started and shouldn't be until a thorough check is done .
This model features the famous Piano Hinge doors ; a development that ensured the doors did not drop under their own weight as time passed. This model had the canvas style insert to the roof as full roof panel presses had not developed at the time to make panels that large. New side- wood roof panels have been made to duplicate the ageing originals .
The door handles/openers etc are all there, and are the much sought after Pine-Cone- patterned items along with the highly decorative Dashboard that matches . Originally owned by a famous motor- racing pioneer family in the mid-north of South Australia this vehicle , given its present un-restored condition, obviously had a very easy life in order for it to have been preserved unmolested for so long . An easy restoration if required or just run it and keep it as an original survivor . Regardless it will always remain a very genuine, straight undamaged vehicle with history, well worthy of preserving . The wheels have been restored already along with a set of brand new Dunlop tyres and tubes currently being fitted to said restored wheels . ................making it very easy to move around .
