Seller Description
This Bambino is special.I bought it advertised as an Abarth but it is not such.It is a apparently a very special car built by Carlo Alquati who was a specialist tuner and performance builder of early racing Fiats.Alquati put in the 650cc motor into his hot Bambino’s. This has a 650 motor - (see pic).I have checked out this vehicle with experts in the UK Fiat Club and it has the correct Weber Carby for an Alquati Fiat.Correct Alquati stamped Inlet manifold.Correct Alquati stamped Sump.Twin exhaust chrome tailpipeThe final check is whether it has the Alquati Camshafts but I have not taken the motor apart to check this therefore cannot confirm.I can say this however - I have owned a standard 500cc Bambino of the same year and this one absolutely kills it performance wise.I believe it to be a genuine Alquati but cannot confirm with absolute certainty.
I bought this as a replacement for my previous Bambino but sadly my wife does not like driving in it and I am in need of a classic Aussie towing vehicle for my period caravan. With the best of will the Fiat cannot do that!!
The interior is in excellent condition. The sliding roof vinyl is perfect. There is only a little surface rust /flaking paint under the Bonnet where brake fluid spilt.Tyres in good condition.
Clutch is good as is brakes.
I do not want to just keep it as a stationary display - it needs to be used.Paintwork was done by previous owner and is ok to look at but really just average and is not pristine.Electrics work fine.
I drove this 40 kms home and have done little bits of cosmetic work and a little tuning.Does need to be professionally tuned however.
Anyone who has ever owned one of these KNOWS how every journey is an adventure.Everyone comments and takes photos of this little beauty when it was on the road.It is cheeky and endearing and an absolute collectors item.Sadly I am parting with a couple of my toys - (I am also selling my restored 1966 Lambretta with 186 Mugello kit - see listing). Might do a package deal with them both as they share a garage and can speak to each other in their lingo!
