Seller Description

Beautiful little country car, very straight, 95% complete, almost ready to register.Would not need to be a mechanic to get this up to driveable state. Easy steps to full rego (pending local rules and inspection).Would be a great weekend cruiser for the budget conscious. No major work needed in my (non-expert) opinion, but having owned dozens of small fords over 40 years, I can say that this would be as easy a resto as you can get!Of course I don't mean concourse, but it has only one minor rust spot (boot floor) that I have seen. The motor sounds good, runs well, no smoke.Starts easily, doesn't leak. Currently hooked up with electric fuel pump as original one needs kit. This also runs the wipers. All gears work, I have only driven 50 metres so can't speak to driving quality, but all the basics work. The brakes have not been bled, but I had the shoes machined and most of the pads are serviceable.Clutch is good, accelerator and steering feel normal for 1951 car. I noticed a small amount of play in steering idler arm, not too bad. This was the first small ford with unitary body (very strong!) and first with MacPherson strut front suspension as found on Cortinas etc. Struts appear to be in excellent condition, no play.Floor had usual rotten carpet surface rust which I cleaned up and sprayed with rust converter paint. Underside is excellent, dirty but no obvious damage or serious leakage. It does have a patina of greasy dust as is normal for old country cars.Needs a speedo cable. There is a small burn hole where someone welded an exhaust bracket at some stage, not serious.Jacking points, frame, sills and guards are all in excellent shape.
Body rubbers and seals are all dry and crumbled. (Replacement kits are available)Interior is dry and cracked, seats are comfortable enough but will need retrim (or good covers!)Trafficators need tweaking, I have 3, two were working but needing lubrication and cleaning.
4 Brand new tyres on standard rims.
Brake drums machined. Exhaust goes to muffler only, needs tail pipe, no leaks otherwise.
Most chrome okay, except crazing on bumpers and pitting on some handles.
Brand new front indicators, repro of originals.

Paint appears original, not sure, except part of boot was sprayed with can, top of two doors appears to have been painted with a brush. Overall presents well, with nice patinated look, could be improved further with a little elbow grease or respray of roof and boot. Depends what you want.
Would obviously be an excellent candidate for full resto, or just do the basics and enjoy now!
Air cleaner (original bath type) in boot, with jack and fuel/vacuum pump. Some loose parts in glove box, manual, radio blanking plate, a few rubbers etc.
No seat belts. May be regoed historically without in some states, or fit aftermarket belts if you want.
Motor sounds good, slight tappet noise but has not been adjusted probably since the eighties. Normal for this engine. No smoke! Dirty but no apparent leaks. Seems very good, I suspect it has been rebuilt not long before being shedded (or maybe even during), but I have no evidence for that. But it starts easily, runs well and clean, no fumes. I have run it for 20-30 minutes at a time and it never got hot or had any issues. Radiator looks good.
Motor is 1508cc 4 cylI have not cleaned engine or engine bay at all, no leaks sighted at all, just normal grime! Has not dropped a single speck on the floor since I have had it. I run it once a week for about 20 minutes to help keep it healthy, I did spill a little fuel on the manifold where you can see a stain in photo.
Manual 3 speed on the column.Send me a way to provide you lin k for vid eo!
Very nice little car, lots of character and easy to take to whatever level you want.
Selling due to another project, as I want to modify something and I think this one is just too original to start changing things.
I made a little recording of it running, if you are interested in seeing that please ask.
This car is very solid, and a great entry level project for historic resto, patinated daily or ratrod look... You can't get them like this very often now that the prices have gone crazy!
Can assist with transport. Car sold unencumbered and 'as - is'.
Located Canberra, running and driveable. Not registered, obviously!
Offers considered. If this doesn't sell now it may not be available again, so if you're keen, don't hesitate. I may list once more in the new year but most likely I will keep it if not sold soon.
Send me a way to provide you lin k for vid eo!
