Seller Description

Ford Orion 1.6 EFi Ghia (1990)
I’m currently looking for a good home for my (Feb) 1990
Orion. The car is now just over 31 years old and I’ve owned it for nearly 30
years having purchased it from a local Ford dealer (long since defunct) in July
1991. It had been a hire car for the first year of its life and was starting to
show the signs of such use around 15 years ago (90,000 miles) so while they
were still available I had another Ford dealer fit a reconditioned engine, so
in effect the current engine has only done 36,000 miles. The second owner only had the car for a few months at the start of 1991. I’ve never thrashed
the car; 70 mph rarely being seen on the clock, one set of brake pads in
126,000 miles, and it’s generally been well cared for. It’s only let me down
once around ten years ago when the fuel pump stopped working. A new Ford unit
was fitted and it’s been fine ever since.

I get around 45mpg on a longer run,
mid 30’s with town driving.
The car has always been garaged. I have all the MoT
certificates and a stack of bills, receipts etc. along with my own notes of
when oil, tyres, water, exhaust etc have been replaced. It also has the
original owner’s handbook, service book and all the flyers that came with it as
a new car. The driver’s seat has always been covered so is in very good order
as is the boot floor which has also had the same treatment during my ownership.
It’s currently in a rented garage which is costing me a fair wad
of money and is currently part of a fleet of five cars and five motorbikes
which unfortunately now needs to be trimmed…
Bad points: (you didn’t honestly think that a 31 year old Ford wouldn’t
have any, did you?)
Crack in the rear bumper, where a car rolled into the back of
me while stationary in the queue waiting to get into Heathrow airport car park...
Boot lid springs are now a bit weak, sometimes they’ll hold
the lid up, sometimes they won’t.
Tape deck seems stuck on maximum bass setting, treble is
fine, sounds ok though – if you’ve still got any cassette tapes available of
course… Sound sometimes only comes out of one side of the speakers.
Fuel computer comes to life after 5 – 10 miles into a journey;
it works perfectly for the rest of the trip.
Both front electric windows work but are getting a bit slow.
Heated front screen only works in a very patchy way.
Nearside headlamp has some rusting evident on the reflector floor
but I do have a new replacement to go with the car. It’s MoT cleared for beam
etc.
Advisory:
Spare wheel has never been on the car and is the original full
size alloy with the Dunlop SP Sport still fitted so although new’, the tyre may
need to be replaced due to age. The jack and wheel brace are still stored,
unused, in the spare wheel hollow.
As the engine has only covered 36,000 miles, fitting a new
cam belt may be a wise move (@ВЈ250 from a Ford dealer).
Not sure what else to say. It’s a 31 year old car and isn’t
concours but is in very good condition when you consider that, until around
eight years ago, it was my only car so did get used more frequently than it has
over the past few years. It has a few stone chips on the front of the bonnet
and a scratch on the driver’s door mirror casing, but I doubt you’ll find many examples
in very much better condition than this one. Cash on collection or bank transfer.
If there’s anything else you’d like know, drop me a line and
I’ll get back to you.
Thanks for looking.
Garry.
