Seller Description
My classic Altai Silver grey Series 1 Disco built Solihull
July 1996 is up for auction, currently in use but selling
unregistered, excess to requirements. (Going camping in my Defender
130 with slide-on!)
This
original Disco is a nice car, and I would have no hesitation jumping
in it and driving to the Northern Territory.
It’s
just had a bona fide Roadworthy inspection by a Landrover
specialist (8/2/21). It needs:
wiper
blades
number
plate light
spot
lights don’t work (they do)
transfer
case pin leaking
rear
a-frame balljoint boot
rear
tailshaft doughnut (he means the rubber coupling is perished – easy
DIY replace $70-100)
driver
side door lock sticky
That’s
all!
Car
has:
-
quite new tyres all round (6115 km), including unused spare;
-
TS4WD alloy bullbar and TJM side steps, tow bar, genuine roof rack,
snorkel, driving lights, roll-out cargo barrier/screen, logbook;
-
new turbo and front shockies, good battery, recent brake shoes
(8015km);
-
clean, undamaged interior with replaced headlining, non-smoker, with
one blemish on driver’s door (see photo);
-
good engine starts instantly. Dalby owners (see below) told me this is an exchange long motor supplied to them by insurance when an aftermarket cooling system accessory failed on the original engine.
- transmission quiet and trouble-free –
no operational issues;
-
straight body, tidy overall appearance with paint faded on roof and
door tops, small past rust repairs on close inspection (see photos);
-
tight steering and suspension – drives beautifully;
-
economical, comfortable and capable vehicle that I think has been
used lightly. There are no dings underneath and nothing worn or
damaged in the suspension or drivetrain.
It
was bought new in Brisbane January 1997 by a company on the Gold
Coast, and was serviced in the Southport/Nerang area until May 2009
(216 140 km). I bought it in December 2016 (276 418 km) from an
elderly couple at Dalby, and they said they had owned it a long time.
I’ve only done 13 862 km, using it as a runabout when I flew home –
a few dirt roads but no off-road and certainly no Fraser Island –
that’s what the Defender’s for!
Non-roadworthy
issues are:
-
driver’s seat needs a cushion – I’ve found it comfortable;
-
small rust starting under the left skylight rubber (see photo) –
doesn’t leak yet;
-
central locking misses the rear passenger door sometimes (but manual lock works fine);
-
leak in top of windscreen only if very heavy rain;
-
minor chips in window tinting on front passenger side (see photo);
-
one plastic headlight protector cracked.
I
can’t think of anything else! New oil and oil filter, doesn’t use
oil or lose water, steering fluid or brake fluid. Can supply basic
travelling spares (see photo), filters, and the previous set of more
aggressive tyres (like spare) which still have plenty of meat for
off-road use.
Excellent
classic doer-upper for someone with the expertise to address the
small list of roadworthy items.
As
the car is currently registered, I can deliver anywhere in Southeast
Queensland/Wide Bay-Burnett/Western Downs for half my cost, provided
I can get home on public transport. I will then cancel registration.
If picking up, you’ll need a permit, as I’ll cancel rego and
remove plates on sale. Interstate bidders: I can deliver to a freighting point in Brisbane.
Terms:
-
bid to buy, not to tyre-kick;
- a
day’s cooling off period when I’ll cancel your bid if requested;
-
after that, full Paypal payment (with eBay buyer protection) before
delivery;
-
delivery costs to be negotiated separately, if applicable.
I paid the $37 for the car history report to save you the money! Clean bill of health.
Their private sale price estimate is $4000 to $4600. If you message me via eBay I may be able to attach it, if eBay allows that.
