Seller Description
This auction is for a Mk2 Moto Guzzi V50. It belonged to my father-in-law who bought it at auction in 1982. The mileage of 18,467 is genuine as it has been in the same family since then. Based on the MOT certificates, and our memory, we think it was last on the road in 1994. It has been in storage since then. It is a good example of a largely original unrestored V50. The only non original parts are the Goodridge strainless brake hoses, the stainless exhaust silencers, the replacement horn and the replacement seat cover. The paint is flaked in places, particularly on the plastic front mudguard, and there is cosmetic corrosion at the edges of the rear metal mudguard (which is still solid). There are small areas of cosmetic corrosion on the frame but I stress it is cosmetic.
The seat base is solid and the fork stanchions are not pitted. To get the bike running and largelyroad worthy after this long period of storage I have just completed the following work;Brakes; rebuild of both brake master cylinders using genuine Brembo piston rebuild kits, cleaned out the callipers, replaced all brake pads and bled the brake system.Carburettors : dismantled and sonically cleaned both carburettors, replaced one float need valve and rebuilt using genuine Dellorto gasket sets.Electrics; fitted new 30Ahr battery, replaced non-working horn.General; Oil change, air filter and replaced some cables (clutch, front brake, choke and throttle).Seat; a replacement aftermarket seat cover was fitted as the original one appeared to have shrunk and the seams were splitting (I still have the original).After completing the above work, with a bit of choke the bike fired up, ticked over (in a lumpy Guzzi way) and all electrics worked. I took it for a short and gentle ride around the block and it pulled well and all gears engaged. However, given this short test ride after such a long period of storage I cannot provide any guarantees regarding its long term reliability or engine condition. The bike is still on its 30+ year old tyres so as a minimum I would strongly recommend their replacement. Although they hold pressure, there are signs of cracking in the side walls. Also, although the bike ticks over and pulls well, I am sure it would benefit from some more precise carburettor set up.I have the bike's 2 original keys plus at least 2 further spares. I can also provide an original Moto Guzzi V50 service manual. It is currently SORNed but due to its age it is now tax and MOT exempt.
I will let the auction run its natural course. Any inspection is welcome prior to the end of the auction. Please remember that you are bidding to buy, not to turn up and negotiate. The bike is in Salisbury from where it needs to be collected. You are welcome to arrange a courier as long as they are a motor bike collection specialist.
