Seller Description
Here for sale is my 1959 Norton Model 50 finished in the standard Forest Green which I have owned since August 2011..This model was affectionately regarded as the safest bike on the road as it had the frame. forks and brakes of the 650cc Dominator but with a 350cc engine producing a mighty 20 bhp ! As a consequence of this many of these were broken up in the 1960's to be rebuilt as Tritons so there are relatively few left in original condition and even fewer in the standard green colour. This machine was first registered on 30th October 1959 in the Leeds area and may have spent its whole life in Yorkshire as I purchased it from a gentleman in York. It has never been restored but has been constantly maintained with items being repaired, replaced and repainted as required. The engine is in good condition and has had new main bearings, valve springs and a rebore with new piston (+.040). The fork stanchions have been hard chromed with new bushes and seals and I have fitted AM4 linings in the front brake so the braking is well up to modern standards. The frame is painted in the wrong colour (too dark) and the paint at the front of the fuel tank has bubbled although it does not appear to be leaking.
I personally feel that this machine is too good to restore and should be used as it, is as a piece of motoring history. It has the original exhaust pipe and silencer so it sounds just like it did when it left the showroom. The original green logbook is present along with a couple of tax discs until it became tax exempt.I am located between Monmouth and Chepstow so if you would like to view and test ride before bidding please send me a message
