Suzuki Bandit 600 Mk1 - Ideal first big bike, or as a daily commuter. Brand new Metzeler Roadtec tyres and EBC front brake pads - only 90 miles since fitted (as at 14/07/2021).
Great little 600, runs well, cheap to run, good fun on twisties. Last month I did the IBC 500 mile on this bike (900 miles in two days) and she didn’t miss a beat.
I bought this from a colleague 4 years ago as a daily runner and a bit of a winter project with no service history and looking unloved. Have spent loads of time servicing it and making sensible modifications.
Servicing carried out by me:
July 2017 - full service, valve clearances (23678 miles)June 2018 - oil & filter service, brake calliper overhaul, brake pads, brake fluid (25,000)April 2019 - oil & filter service, new chain and sprockets (26,694)March 2020 - full service, valve clearances, full carb rebuild, new inlet rubbers (27,834)April 2021 - oil & filter serviceJune 2021 - brake fluid change, new front pads, pair of new tyres (Metzeler Roadtec).
Sensible mods / upgrades by me:
Rear shock replaced with adjustable shock from GSXR1000. Much better for a larger riderFront suspension mod (penny washers in top of forks for preload plus increased fluid volume). Rids the bike of the front end dive.Bandit 1200 fuel tank - swapped because the 1200 has fuel sender and gauge which the 600 mk1 doesn’t.Heated gripsBraided brake hosesLarger tyres - bike is much more stableRear rack and top boxLED indicatorsRound headlightFly screenMirror extendersUSB / cig socket for 12v accessories and chargingAux fuseboard powered through an ignition triggered relay - for grips, fuel gauge, usb / cig socketRattle can respray 2020 (the decent stuff from RS Paints)Bad bits:
Micron end can is dented (might pull out)Usual dents and scuffs for a bike this ageIt has the Bandit vibration around 6000rpm or 60mph (plenty of forum discussion about this, which is normal)This is an air cooled bike so idle is a little less refined than a modern water cooled 4 cylinderThe larger tyres make such a difference to the ride, but throw the speedo out by about 5mphAm selling this because I’ve done all I wanted to with it and have just bought something else.
