The Cadillac Catera is a mid-size 4-door sedan. It is largely a replica of an Opel car, the Opel Omega MV6, which was assembled in Rüsselsheim, Germany. Cadillac has improved the comfort and safety of the vehicle. As a result, the Omega MV6 gained weight, which necessitated the need to strengthen the suspension. It was the first Cadillac fully assembled outside of America.

The Cadillac Catera was first introduced in 1997 and was subsequently redesigned for the 2000 model year. He received an updated frontyuyu part, new wheels, mirrors, headlights and interior. The suspension got tighter settings. Under the hood is a 3.0-liter L81 V6 engine. Its power was 200 hp. The power unit was created in England at the General Motors plant in Ellesmere Port. The sedan was rear-wheel drive unlike all other Cadillac models at the time. The maximum speed of the car was 200 km / h, and acceleration from standstill to 100 km / h took only 8.5 seconds.

The Cadillac Catera was equipped with a GM 4L30-E 4-speed automatic transmission, which was also used in BMW 3 cars.5th and 5th series and in some Isuzu models. It was designed at the General Motors plant in Strasbourg, France.

The sports model Catera was offered in 1999. She got bigger wheels, a more stable suspension, a rear spoiler and other more cosmetic changes.

Note that the Cadillac Catera was smaller in size and power than the rest of the Cadillac models. Despite positive reviews and press reviews, sales fell short of General Motors' expectations. The car was more often viewed as too small forCadillac could not attract enough buyers against the background of European competitors.

Due to reliability problems, including rapid engine wear in urban driving modes, as well as an unsuccessful advertising campaign, the Cadillac Catera was discontinued in 2001. In five years of production of the sedan, approximately 95,000 vehicles were sold in the United States.

The platform on which the Cadillac Catera was based was used until September 2006 in the North American Pontiac GTO, and until 2007 in the Holden Commodore and Holden Monaro in Australia. Issue evThe European version of the Opel Omega was discontinued in 2003.
