I’m selling my 89 Chrysler New Yorker. I have had it for 6 years. Bought it off an old man who said it was used by his family. It runs alittle hot now, I think it might be a warped head gasket, but I’m no mechanic. Real heavy car! Rides on air

The Chrysler New Yorker is a premium model produced by the Chrysler Corporation between 1939 and 1996, which at one time was the flagship of the company's lineup.

A model called the Chrysler New York Special appeared in the 30s, and already in 1939 it received the name Chrysler New Yorker. Until 1969, it was a mid-size car. And since 1969, the New Yorker has appeared as a full-size model. At that time, it was available in two bodies: a 2-door coupe and a 4-door sedan. Under the hood, until 1974, the RB V8 engine with a volume of 7.2 liters was located... As for the transmission, the A-727 3-speed automatic transmission was installed here. Due to the tightening of fuel policy in the 70s, in 1974 Chrysler released the last full-size car models, including the Chrysler New Yorker. In the future, cars move to the mid-size R-platform, which in essence was an elongated version of the mid-size B-platform. The design of the 1975 New Yorker was based on the Chrysler Newport.

1979 New Yorker submodel Chrysl comes outer Fifth Avenue. This model was also based on the R-platform. As standard, the car was equipped with a 5.2-liter V8 engine, and as an option, a 5.9-liter V8 power unit could be installed. This model has become lighter and shorter than the previous generation models. In 1980, a version called the Fifth Avenue "Limited Edition" was released, the only differences being a stainless steel roof and a smaller rear window.

In 1982, Chrysler New Yorker and the Fifth Avenue version began to use the M-platform on which the car was based.Bill Chrysler LeBaron. Of the differences between the New Yorker and the Fifth Avenue version, it is worth noting the interior trim. In the basic configuration of the New Yorker, the car had a fabric interior, and in the Fifth Avenue version, the buyer was already expecting a leather interior.

In 1988, Chrysler New Yorker starts using the C-platform. But in the same year, Chrysler introduced a version of the Turbo New Yorker, which was based on the E-platform. Under the hood of this version was a 2.2-liter Turbo I I4 engine. This year, a version of the Chrysler New Yorker Landau (with a landau roof) was also introduced. List of proposed engines up to 1989year included: the K I4 engine with a volume of 2.2 liters and 2.5 liters, as well as the Mitsubishi G54B I4 with a volume of 2.6 liters. Since 1989, it has changed, and it began to include two options for power units: Mitsubishi 6G72 V6 with a volume of 3.0 liters (base) and EGA V6 with a volume of 3.3 liters (optional).

In 1990, a version of the Chrysler New Yorker appeared called Saloon, which used the M-platform. In fact, it was Dodge Dynasty, which received a new grille and headlights.

In 1994, the last generation of the Chrysler New Yorker car was released, which was already based on the Chrysler LH platform. For the first time, this model wasstaged back in 1992 at the North American Auto Show in Detroit. Under the hood of the updated model was a 3.5-liter EGJ V6 engine. Also, two transmission options were offered for the car: 3-speed and 4-speed "automatic machines".

In 1996, the production of a car called the Chrysler New Yorker was discontinued. It gave way to the more popular Chrysler LHS.
