The Fiat Tempra is a mid-size family car produced by the Italian company Fiat between 1990 and 1998. The new Fiat model replaced the outdated by this time Fiat Regata. It aimed to become competitive in the large family sedan market, which at the time was dominated by models such as the Opel Vectra, Peugeot 405 and Ford Sierra. The main competitors in its class for the Fiat Tempra are the Peugeot 306 and the Ford Escort. The car was competitive in price and was generally considered the main budget alternative among established models in thism sector, although some advanced options such as a digital instrument cluster were available.

The Fiat Tempra was first introduced in February 1990. It was built on the same platform as the Fiat Tipo (it was a small family car). The main body options available for the Tempra model were a 4-door sedan and a 5-door station wagon, but a 2-door station wagon version was also available in Brazil, which was powered by a 4-cylinder 2-liter DOHC turbocharged engine.

As for the drivetrain, a 4-speed was proposed for the Fiat Tempra.and a 5-speed manual transmission, and in 1991 a 4-speed automatic transmission with two modes (normal and sport) appeared.

Initially, the following engine options were offered for Fiat Tempra: 1.4-liter gasoline 4-cylinder power units (SOHC 76 hp, and since 1992 69 hp equipped with a fuel injector and catalyst), 1.6 liters (SOHC 77 hp), 2.0 liters (113 hp 8-valve with multi-injection and catalyst), a diesel 4-cylinder 8-valve engine with a volume of 1.9 liters (65 hp) and its turbocharged version with a capacity of 90 hp

Vin 1990, simultaneously with the Fiat Marengo, a station wagon version was released - Tempra SW (Weekend) with a 1.8-liter petrol engine with 109 hp. (and since 1992 105 hp with fuel injector and catalyst).

In 1992, the Fiat Tempra SW station wagon became available with permanent all-wheel drive. Also, the car was equipped with ventilated brake discs at the front, solid discs at the rear and an ABS system. In the same year, a diesel version of the Fiat Tempra station wagon was released, equipped with a two-liter 90-horsepower turbodiesel.

In August 1993, there werechanges in appearance have been made. Fiat Tempra received a new radiator grill. Also, work was done to improve the passive safety of the car. But the car underwent major changes a year later. The car received a 1.6-liter gasoline engine with a capacity of 90 hp. The interior trim and equipment were improved (an airbag was installed on the driver's side).

In 1995, production of the Fiat Tempra in Europe was discontinued (giving way to the Bravo / Brava models), but their production was still ongoing in Brazil. Concerningdrivers, the list of power units included: 4-cylinder diesel engine with a volume of 1.9 liters and its turbocharged version; 2-liter 4-cylinder 8-valve engines (113 hp, and the turbocharged version MPI Turbo produced 165 hp); 2-liter, 4-cylinder, 16-valve powertrain with 127 hp.

It is worth noting that the car was quite well equipped inside: central locking, power windows, electric mirrors, sunroof, heated windshield. The interior of the car is quite practical - the finish is average, without any specialmischief, but everything you need is at hand. The dashboard is quite functional, the instrument readings are well read, but the location of the radio, the layout of the switches and buttons on the center console were not very convenient. The stiffness of the suspension affects the comfort and the level of sound insulation of the cabin - when driving, especially on uneven roads, there are strong shocks, perceptible noise and vibration.

Of course, the build quality of the Fiat Tempra, compared to its predecessor, the Fiat Regata, was excellent: the panels were tightly fitted to each other.roughe, and 70% of the body area is galvanized.

In 1998, production of the Fiat Tempra in Brazil was also completed.
