In the 1980s, the legendary Countach was noticeably outdated. Lamborghini is faced with the challenge of creating a worthy successor. This is how the Lamborghini Diablo was born. Sales of the first version of Diablo began in 1991 and continued until 1993.

In 1993, the basic model underwent some changes. Lamborghini decided that an improved version of the car could attract new buyers. She received the designation Diablo VT (Viscous Traction) - "viscous traction", translated from English. Visually, the changes were manifested in an increase in the size of the air intakes near the rear wheels, an update of the dashboard and the appearance of a groove in the rather high cover of the engine compartment. From 1995 to 1998, a modification of the Diablo SV (Sport Veloce) was produced and sold - "fast, sporty", translated from Italian. This Lamborghini was left with rear-wheel drive only. In 1994, sales of the Diablo SE30 began. Special Edition to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Lamborghini. This limited edition consisted of 150 cars, eight of which were equipped with right-hand drive.

In 1995, the company introduced the Diablo SE30 Jota. The main difference between this modification is 2 original air intakes in the rear of the car roof (for this reason, we had to abandon the rear-view mirror in the cabin). To lighten the car, everything that is not directly related to driving was removed from it - an air conditioner, a radio tape recorder and even branded seats made of pressed carbon fiber. This made it possible to reduce the total weight of the machine by 125 kg compared to the standard version.

The open exhaust system was standard for Jota, which is not allowed in all countries and does not allow the vehicle to be registered for road use. The car could not be fully used off-highway, however, several copies were seen on public roads.

In 1995, the Diablo VTR Roadster was presented at the Bologna Auto Show. This modification is built on the chassis of the standard version of Diablo, but has a completely redesignedbody. The sliding roof can be easily retracted and fixed over the engine compartment. The interior is made of rain and sun resistant materials. The dashboard, although reduced in size, contains all the necessary elements. The designers have increased the two air intakes above the rear fenders for more air flow into the engine.

In 1999, the second modification of the Diablo VTR roadster appeared, in which only cosmetic changes were made. The car has new headlights, wheels and a dashboard. The Diablo GT1 is a car created by Lamborghini in collaboration with the French company SAT (Signes Advanced Technology) from Toulon. Following the acquisition of Lamborghini by Audi AG, it was decided to make a number of changes to the car's design to increase revenue, until a replacement for this model, the Lamborghini Murciélago, is ready. This was the last major redesign of the car. The changes affected both the exterior and the design - the front bumper, air intakes, dashboard, seats were changed once again. Diablo is now VT 6.0.
