In 2003, the Grandis replaced the outdated Mitsubishi Space Wagon monocab, but did not directly replace it, since the image, concept and positioning of these cars are significantly different.

The car is made in the new corporate style of the company, developed by the design team led by Olivier Boulet.

Mitsubishi designers managed to reward a trivial family minivan with an extraordinary look. The exterior of the Grandis is a combination of harmony and dynamics. Boom headlights, almost as long as the hood, sporty, sweeping silhouette, garlandtrendy LED lights around the perimeter of the huge rear window - all this looks stylish, modern and creative.

The prototypes of the Grandis are two concept cars: the chic MPV Space Liner and the fiery one-volume CZ3 Tarmac. The car borrowed from them the highest level of comfort inherent in the first and the emotional sporty character of the second.

The Mitsubishi Grandis is a full-size minivan designed to broaden the concept of MPV (Multi Purpose Vehicle) vehicles. Mitsubishi designers managed to create an emotional, memorable image butth car, and the stylish and thoughtful interior helped to preserve the spaciousness and versatility traditional for this class.

The Grandis is shorter than most of its classmates, but at the same time it has a large wheelbase (2830 mm) and a wide track (1550/1555 mm). Thanks to this combination, the car has graceful proportions, which favorably distinguishes it in city traffic. Buyers will be offered options with a 7-seater (one-piece second-row seat) and 6-seater (separate second-row seats) of the cabin. Moreover, regardless of the version, the second row hasa huge number of transformations for the most rational use of internal space. The second row seats are equipped with a large number of adjustments: in the 7-seater version, they fold in a 40/60 ratio, reclining armrests are provided for separate seats, the Relax Mode system allows you to change the inclination of the seat cushion and take the most relaxed position. Plus the ability to move the seats forward - backward along the guides and, if desired, turn the salon into a comfortable double bed.

It is noteworthy that siThe seats of the third row fold into underground niches, forming a large luggage compartment with a flat floor. Thus, when transporting large items, the third row seats do not need to be removed and stored separately.

Additional comfort and coziness is created by such interior details as shock-mounted folding reading tables, a double glove box, lockable compartments on the front panel and in the third row seat area, an underfloor niche, as well as many cup holders and all kinds of holders without whichno minivan imaginable.

Particular attention was paid to passive safety when designing the Grandis. The power structure of the body uses the technology "RISE" ("Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution" - enhanced impact protection). It allows during an impact to control the relative position of the load-bearing elements of the body, providing active protection for the occupants of the passenger compartment during a serious accident. This system is complemented by front and side airbags for the driver and front passenger, inflatable curtains, front pretensionersseat belts with chest force limiters, special front seats that limit the longitudinal movement of the body in a frontal collision, seat frames and head restraints that protect the neck from damage during reverse movement, a safety pedal assembly and a special fastening for child seats of the ISO - FIX standard.

The inherent architecture of the Grandis minivan provides the driver with a high seating position and good panoramic visibility. This position, firstly, increases traffic safety, allowing the driver to better orientto navigate in the traffic flow, and secondly, it facilitates the process of entry and exit. There is more than enough space above the head, triangular windows on the sides of the dashboard make it easier to see when parking, and the center console ends almost at the front bumper.

The interior trim is made with high quality, the creators managed to create an atmosphere of coziness and comfort in the cabin: nice plastic, stylish aluminum inserts, non-trivial panel design. Semicircular center console, stylish ashtray, comfortable armrests and door handles. All elemeYou are well thought out both in terms of design and ergonomics.

Grandis has independent front and rear wheel suspensions, and the rear axle uses a scheme that minimizes the effect of vehicle loading on handling and stability.

All wheels are equipped with 16-inch disc brakes (ventilated at the front and one-piece at the rear). ABS with EBD (Brake Force Distribution) is standard on all models. On the top versions, MATC systems are available ("Mitsubishi Active Traction Control" - an active traction control systema) and MASC ("Mitsubishi Active Stability Control" - proprietary dynamic stabilization system) which allow you to maintain control over the car even on slippery roads. As an option, it is possible to install 17-inch light-alloy wheels.

The Grandis is powered by an ultra-modern 2.4-liter four-cylinder 165-horsepower MIVEC engine (Mitsubishi Innovative Valve lift and Timing Electronic Control). The MIVEC system not only provides excellent throttle response and high torquemoment in a wide rev range, but also endows the Grandis with excellent driving characteristics.

This power unit is completed with an automatic transmission INVECS-II.

Especially for European buyers, Mitsubishi has developed a diesel modification of the Grandis, which will appear a little later. The Japanese opted for 2L Volkswagen engines. The unit has a capacity of 136 hp. and thanks to the high torque (310 Nm), it is hardly inferior to the 165-horsepower petrol version. Representatives of the company promise acceleration from standstill to 100 km / h in 10.8 s and and maximumthe speed is 197 km / h.

Grandis is a modern car for a friendly family. Carefully thought-out functionality, reliability, practicality and elegant appearance are the main components for which buyers in many countries of the world have chosen this car.
