The Cadillac XLR is a luxury folding hardtop roadster from Cadillac, a division of General Motors. It was first presented at the 2003 Detroit Auto Show. And went on sale in the 2004 model year. The XLR was based on the same Y platform as the Chevrolet Corvette. This platform is developed by GM.

Unlike the Corvette, the Cadillac XLR is powered by a 4.6-liter Cadillac Northstar V8 engine. Its power was 320 hp. A 5-speed automatic transmission was proposed for this engine. Such a combinationiia allows the roadster to accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in just 5.9 seconds. The maximum speed is electronically limited for safety reasons of 250 km / h.

Also, the roadster has its own unique exterior, interior and suspension. The exterior of the XLR combines sporty aggression with the thoroughbred Cadillac traits. The dynamic silhouette of the body, set on wheels with 18-inch disks, clearly makes it clear that not everyone will be able to compete with it.

Roadster interior includes luxury leather trim with inlaysunder the tree. The technical equipment of the cabin is also not lagging behind. Here, airbags, a navigation system combined with a DVD audio system in one 7-inch monitor, and even a remote engine start - all this comes as standard.

In 2005, Cadillac released a version called the XLR-V. The debut took place on February 6, 2005. Under its hood was a 4.4-liter V8 Northstar SC overpressure engine found on the STS-V model. However, its indicators are somewhat reduced. Supercharger and 4 intercoolerswere integrated into the manifold. This engine produced 443 hp with a maximum torque of 561 Nm.

The Cadillac XLR-V comes with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Now this sports roadster is ready to hit the 100 km / h mark in just 4.7 seconds. True, its maximum speed is still limited to 250 km / h. Due to the increased dynamics, the Cadillac XLR-V is equipped with brakes from the Corvette Z51.

For the new XLR-V, the chassis structure has been modified: front and rear anti-roll bars are increased, wishbone bushings.

It is worth noting that the Cadillac XLR-V is also equipped with MRC (Magnetic Ride Control) as standard. This system allows you to change the stiffness of the shock absorbers depending on the road surface and the g-forces during cornering at high speed. Its essence lies in the magnetic shock absorbers developed by General Motors. The system itself was designed jointly with the Delphi Corporation. This system lacks the usual ways of adjusting the force. I take care of all the workt on itself a magneto-rheological fluid. This fluid works as in conventional shock absorbers, but under the influence of an electromagnetic field generated by special electromagnetic coils, it is able to change its viscosity. Moreover, change at a frequency of 1000 times / sec, and the adjustment occurs almost instantly. The system takes only one millisecond to respond. There are no motors, no solenoids, no complicated valve systems of any kind. Such a magnetic shock absorber is simpler than its classic "colleagues", but, unfortunately, it has not yetcheaper. This is due to the still high cost of stratification-resistant magneto-rheological fluids with a fairly wide operating temperature range.

Outwardly distinctive features include a mesh grille (the same mesh appeared in the air intake) and 19-inch wheels, which are now installed as standard.
