In early 2004, at the Los Angeles Auto Show, General Motors unveiled a new compact Chevrolet Cobalt (aka Pontiac Pursuit), an alternative replacement for the 10-year-old Cavalier. The model was created on the GM Delta front-wheel drive platform. The car is in the same class as the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla. The base engine is a 2.2-liter 140-horsepower engine, and a 170-horsepower 2.4-liter engine is offered for the top version of the Cobalt SS.
