The 2004 Chevrolet Colorado mid-size pickup truck replaced the S-10 in the firm's program. The official premiere took place at the January 2003 NAIAS in Detroit. Production began at GM's Shreveport, Louisiana plant in the fall of 2003. The Colorado's design is original and based on GM's new "cargo" platform. Cab types - single (Regular Cab), one-and-a-half (Extended Cab), double (Crew Cab). The pickup went into series with front or all-wheel drive, with a conventional, extended or 4-door cab and 3 suspension settings: standard, sport or off-road.

Caril is equipped with two new engines - R4 Vortec 2800 (175 HP, 251 N • m) and R5 Vortec 3500 (220 HP, 305 N • m), obtained by reducing the number of cylinders of the Vortec 4200 engine. 4 -step "automatic" or 5-speed manual gearbox. Optional side airbags, heated leather seats, OnStar satellite system and XM digital radio are available. The Colorado is the quietest in its class with excellent aerodynamics and improved torsion bar suspension. The steering column is adjustable. Permanent four-wheel drive is connected by a button on the panwhether. The rear differential is self-locking, even on the rear-wheel drive 2WD version, as is the traction control.

The Z85 comes standard with ABS, cloth and vinyl seat upholstery, 15-inch wheels and power steering.

In parallel with the Colorado, a more expensive GMC Canyon pickup is being assembled. The main differences between GMC Canyon and Chevrolet Colorado are the exterior of the front end with a large chrome mask of complex shape, at the same time framing the radiator grill and dividing the lighting equipment into two parts (in contrast to the horizontal strips of the Colorado). Complements the picture of traditionalo large GMC emblem in red. The Canyon's interior is not as utilitarian as Chevrolet's, such as the aluminum-coated GMC center console. The rest of the set of equipment and power units with transmissions from GMC Canyon and Chevrolet Colorado is almost identical.
