Fiat Croma debuted in the mid-80s. The practical five-door body, combining impressive external dimensions and large interior space, was appreciated by buyers. The line of power units of the first years of production consisted of gasoline engines 1.6 l (83 hp), 2.0 l (90/120/115/155/150 hp), diesel 2.5 l (75 l .s.) and a 2.45 liter turbodiesel (100 hp).

In 1988, after the commissioning of the new Fiat plant - Termoli 3, equipped with the most modern equipment, the Croma model range was expanded. The car began to be equipped with a turbodiesel with a volume of 2000 cm³ (92 hp), with a pdirect fuel injection (the prototype of the common rail system) and the Croma went down in history as the first production car equipped with such an engine.

In May 1989, the body, interior and engines were modified. Modified engines: petrol 1.6 l (85 hp), 2.0 l (100/120/115/158/150 hp), turbo diesel 2.5 l (118 hp). Then, in January 1991, the 1.9 VNT-Turbo turbodiesel engine (94 hp) appeared. In December 1992 - a gasoline engine 2.0 l 16 cl. (140 hp). At the beginning of 1993 - a 2.5 liter gasoline engine 16 cl. (162 hp).

Since 1994, following the demands of the times, the Fiat Croma hasand equip with an airbag for the driver. The Croma was discontinued in 1996. The first generation sold around the world in a circulation of 450 thousand copies.

At the Geneva Motor Show in early March 2005, the Italian concern presented a new generation of the Croma model. Almost 10 years later, after discontinuing the previous generation of this car, the Fiat brand has returned to the European E segment. The Croma II has all the qualities necessary to continue the glorious traditions of its ancestors.

The car is designed on a shortened babehind the Opel Signum platform, it is a mid-size station wagon with a wheelbase (2,700 mm versus 2,830 mm for the Signum), a shortened rear overhang, McPherson front suspension and multi-link rear suspension. The car is 4.75 meters long, 1.77 meters wide, and 1.6 meters high. The design of the revived Croma belongs to the pen of the famous atelier Giugiaro, which has always been associated with the words quality and impeccable style.

The designers managed to find a very fine line between simplicity and elegance. From all angles, the car looks harmonious - smooth lines, prsimple and laconic contours, beautiful lighting technology. The imposing full face has good aerodynamic properties. Spectacular headlights located at an angle, a large chrome grille, a sloping C-pillar - create a unique dynamic and expressive appearance of this model. Croma is the embodiment of Italians' boundless love for beauty and comfort. The level of ergonomics, electronics and safety of this car meets the requirements of the most discerning customer.

Thanks to a number of innovations, the dimensions of the cabinwas given to significantly expand. The car is distinguished by a low floor and high doorways. It can comfortably accommodate five people. The Croma sets the tone for its class in spaciousness, headroom and seat spacing.

The rear seats have been raised slightly in relation to the front seats to add more legroom. Plus, the seats are convertible, they consist of two parts, which can not only be folded, but also moved independently of each other back and forth.

Beyond spacesin the trunk, which was given initially, you can get much more useful space if you fold the rear row seats. The luggage compartment provides many convenient attachments for attaching various items. For greater convenience, the luggage compartment is divided into separate modules.

Like all new Fiats, the Croma is distinguished by a very rich equipment even in the basic configuration, including seven airbags, ABS, ESP. Internal equipment is at a decent level. In the trim levels you can find such examples of modern progress as conISIER, spherical side mirrors, xenon headlights, cruise control, nine airbags, a music system with 8 speakers and a subwoofer, and much more.

Range of engines: petrol 1.8 l R4 16V (130 hp); 2.2 L R4 16V (150 HP); three Multijet turbodiesels - 1.9 L R4 8V (120 HP, 280 Nm), 1.9 L R4 16V (150 HP, 320 Nm) and the flagship 2.4 L R5 20V (200 HP ., 400 Nm). For gasoline engines there is a 5-speed "mechanics" and an optional 5-speed "automatic" for the Croma 2.2, and turbodiesel versions (it is on them that the main rate is made)equipped with a 6-speed manual gearbox (in the base for 1.9 liters) or a 6-speed "automatic" (option for 1.9 16V and standard for 2.4).

The technical features of the Croma model allow a brisk ride, so the protection of passengers should be at their best. During the EuroNCAP trials, the Italian creation received very positive reviews and ratings from the judges. A frontal impact was rated at 15 points (92% of all available points), and a side impact at 18 (97%). Fiat earned the newcomer 5 stars for the safety of adult passengers and 4 stars for the protection of children. Thus, dial34 points, Fiat Croma was able to stand on a par with such luminaries of the middle class as VW Passat and BMW 3-series.

In 2008, Croma underwent an effective restyling. The model received a slightly updated appearance. Master Giugiaro worked on the exterior design. The most significant change, which fundamentally changed the perception of the model, is due to the fresh design of the front end. New headlights (possibly xenon) have removed the bulkiness of the front end and made it more elegant. The complex front bumper made the car more attractive. Sloping roofline, taillights- sort of "fixing brackets" of the stern and sidewalls - everything is quite modern, and everything declares about the dynamics and functionality of the car.

But the body shape has retained the same shape. According to the manufacturers, such proportions in the car are needed for its functionality, spaciousness of the cabin and for a large trunk. The 2008 Croma station wagon with a length of 4756 mm has a trunk volume of 500 liters and 1610 liters with the rear seats folded.

Croma is supplied to the Russian market with only one type of engine - a 4-cylinder 2.2-liter petrol engine mwith a capacity of 147 hp. Acceleration to 100 km / h takes 10.9 seconds. Fuel consumption according to passport data is 13.0 liters per 100 km in the city.

The high and bright interior has a classic design with wood accents. The Emotion trim includes dual-zone climate control, xenon headlights, nine airbags including a driver's knee airbag, cruise control and a giant glass sunroof.

Croma received the highest rating of 5 stars in the EuroNCAP rating, as well as 4 stars in the same rating for the protection of children. However, in commercial pBut the model turned out to be unsuccessful: instead of the desired 5-6 thousand cars per year, 1,368 cars were sold for the entire time. Therefore, in 2010, the company decided to abandon the production of Fiat Croma.
