In the fall of 2014, the long-awaited premiere of the Mazda CX-3 compact crossover took place in Los Angeles. It is the fifth vehicle in the lineup to sport the full suite of Skyactiv technology and Kodo styling. In the lineup of the automaker, the novelty took place one step below the CX-5 crossover.

The exterior of the CX-3 is made in the current corporate style of the "KODO - Soulof Motion" company with a characteristic massive radiator grille and narrow lighting equipment. The silhouette of the body is characterized by a long bonnet with a smooth expressive line flowing into the front fenders and running along the sidese, right up to the tucked stern with a small overhang. For the sake of cleanliness of the lines of the rear bumper, the designers moved the license plate higher. One of the components of the image is the blackened rear pillars. And details such as LEDs in the head and rear optics give the car charm and aggressiveness. In general, the appearance of the model overlaps with both the older brother of the CX-5 and with the "two" of the second generation.

A new type of paint was used for the crossover, which the company calls "ceramic metallic". It gives interesting effects when changing lighting....

The CX-3 crossover is assembled on the basis of the Skyactiv chassis, exactly the same as that of the Mazda 2. But the SUV is 4275 mm long ("kopeck piece" - 4060), in width - 1765 (70 mm wider), in height - 1550 ( 25-50 mm higher, depending on the version). The ground clearance is 160 mm (for the Mazda 2 hatch - 145 mm). Only the wheelbase remained unchanged - 2570 mm. This means that we have a compact crossover, much smaller in size than its "older brother" CX-5.

It is noteworthy that in the CX-3 body, high-strength steels account for 63%, and ultra-high-strength steels - 29%. CheSome percent is assigned to advanced steels with a tensile strength above 1180 MPa.

The salon received a classic 5-seater layout, and its design is almost completely borrowed from the Mazda 2 hatchback. It has the same steering wheel, the same instruments, the same front panel with three round ventilation systems and a new generation MZD Connect multimedia system screen above the center console. The glazing of the cabin is minimized, but this did not affect the visibility, it is still at a high level. The quality of the materials used is an order of magnitude better acceptedth in this class. The combination of tactile plastic and soft materials creates a simple yet modern interior.

We are not talking about the spaciousness of the cabin. Up front, everything is good enough for two passengers, but the back here is cramped. The Japanese approached the layout of the interior space of the crossover very carefully. For example, the rear row of seats is slightly higher than the front row, and the seats are shifted towards the center, which should improve visibility from the rear row.

As additional options, it is possible to equipMazda CX-3 with i-Activsense security systems, leather interior trim, head-up display, dual-zone climate control, adaptive cruise control, keyless entry, panoramic sunroof and other chips.

The trunk of the Mazda CX 3, of course, is also compact. The luggage compartment in the standard position of the rear row backrests is 365 liters. In addition, the trunk is high, but access to it is very limited. There is also no way to get a flat cargo area, although the rear seat folds down in parts.

UnderThe stat of functionality of the Mazda CX-3 is more than compensated by dynamics and controllability. This is the strategy chosen by the manufacturer.

The crossover is equipped with a proven and reliable two-liter naturally aspirated in-line four-cylinder engine, familiar to us from other products in the company's model line and having 150 hp at its disposal.

A six-speed "automatic" Skyactiv-Drive works in tandem with the motor. It has a Sport mode in which it readily downshifts when actively driving. He can even holdb revolutions before cutoff.

The drive is either front or fully connected to choose from. The front-wheel drive model CX-3 should consume about 8.1 liters per 100 kilometers in the city and 6.72 liters on the highway. The all-wheel drive model will consume a little more - 8.7 and 7.32 liters per 100 km, respectively.

In Europe, the choice of modifications is wider. In addition to the Skyactiv-G 2.0 engine, the Skyactiv-D 1.5 diesel is available to the Old World. In addition, the Europeans have at their disposal two gearboxes - a six-speed "mechanics" and a 6-band "automatic" Skyactiv-Drive, which received a different gwater transformer and a number of other improvements.

Unlike other representatives of the Skyactiv generation, the CX-3 received a different suspension geometry. The MacPherson front suspension has largely remained unchanged, except that it has become more compact. But the rear suspension is very different, since instead of a multi-link system, a torsion beam was used here. But since we are talking about Mazda, the use of more archaic elements did not have a negative effect on the car's driving characteristics, and the CX-3 copes well with turns. Body roll is minimale, as well as a nod at a sharp deceleration. Disc brakes are installed on all wheels, and the rack and pinion steering mechanism received an electric booster as assistants.

The Japanese were the first to receive the model - in the spring of 2015, and in the summer - by the Americans. The car will appear in Russia at the end of 2015. Fight for the buyer of the Mazda CX-3 will be with such rivals as Ford EcoSport and Skoda Yeti, Opel Mokka and Nissan Juke.
