Favorit is a car that was destined to play a huge role not only in the history of Skoda, but also in the development of the entire Czech car industry. In July 1987, the very first ("pre-production") Skoda Favorit rolled off the assembly line at the plant in Mlada Boleslav. Serial production started six months later. Named Skoda 781 in development, the production model Favorit was Skoda's first front-wheel drive vehicle.

The chief designer of the car was appointed the director of the research institute of firmsSkoda Petr Grlichka. The exterior and interior design of the body was proposed by the Italian design studio Bertone. The head of the company, Nuccio Bertone (Nuccio Bertone) in four months developed the final version of the body shape. In the fall of 1983, a 1: 1 scale plaster model was delivered to the Czechoslovak side. About a year later, in August 1984, Bertone presented a prototype of the body, which was immediately filled with units manufactured at the car factory. So the first running prototype was born. In total, 12 kusos were received from Bertone.wwii. It should be noted that the development of the body structure and the release of documentation was carried out by Czechoslovak specialists under the guidance of colleagues from Italy. Thus, a fruitful collaboration led to an excellent result. The body turned out to be both modern in design and original in design. Another important partner involved in the Favorit was Porsche with its outstanding development in the acoustics and vibration fields. The German company was engaged in the creation of the engine mount. As a result, they took part in the creation of Skoda Favoritno 42 partners.

The impressive height (1415 mm) allowed the designers to seat passengers more vertically, which provided convenient entry and exit from the passenger compartment. The possibility of folding the front seats and the creation of berths testified to the thoughtful functionality of the interior space. Special attention should be paid to the heating system with a branched circuit for supplying warm air. The dashboard was quite richly decorated for a car of this class. All readings were easy to read, all switches were provided withgreat access.

The basic version of Favorit was equipped with a lower 4-cylinder carburetor engine with a volume of 1.3 liters and a power of 58 hp. The power unit was created on the basis of an old design, produced since 1964. The updated version of the motor was adapted to be installed not longitudinally at the back, but in front of the car. Low fuel consumption has been achieved by a significantly improved engine power system.

In 1989, a velvet revolution took place in Czechoslovakia, and the car plant began not its best years. From-cars of Western European production went abroad, production disruptions began. The government decided to solve the problems of the car plant and decided to sell the plant to a foreign investor. 24 firms applied for this role, among which were such as BMW, GM, Renault. However, Volkswagen offered the best conditions. German designers managed to fix all the flaws and flaws. For Favorit, this resulted in over three hundred design changes and a dramatic improvement in build quality while maintaining all the basic characteristics of the model.problems with the quality of components disappeared immediately. In February 1994, in addition to the carburetor, they began to install central injection, which increased the power to 64 hp. The model was produced until 1994, when it was replaced by Felicia. A total of 783,163 units were sold.
