The Pontiac Firebird was first introduced in 1967. This two-seater RWD sports coupe was powered by a V8 engine with under-head valves. 1969 saw the launch of the Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. The car was equipped with an eight-cylinder V-shaped engine producing 330 hp. The maximum speed was 195 km / h.
Since 1981, the Firebird Formula 5.0 version has been produced, and since 1987 - the Firebird Trans Am 5.0 with a 5-liter engine (210 hp, 295 Nm). The production of both modifications was completed in 1989.
The next generation Pontiac Firebird was first shown to the publicin December 1992. From 1994 to 1996, cars with 3.4-liter engines were produced. There was also a version with a 5.7-liter engine (279 hp) in a convertible body; its release lasted until 2000.
The car had a down-to-earth swift silhouette, "pop-up" headlights and four "fog lights" in the front bumper. The model was produced with two body options: a three-door coupe and a two-door convertible. The dimensions of a two-seater coupe, like that of a convertible, are 4968/1893/1321 mm with a wheelbase of 2566 mm and a track gauge of 1542/1540 mm. Curb weight 1528 kg, permissible grossi - 2000 kg. Trunk volume 365 l. The ground clearance was 115 mm.
Standard equipment included air conditioning, power mirrors and seats.
An overhead valve with a lower camshaft, with two valves per cylinder, the engine was located longitudinally under the hood. Power 3.4-liter V6 148 hp at 4600 rpm, torque 257 Nm (3150 rpm). The maximum speed of the car was 207 km / h. The consumption of AI-92 gasoline in the urban cycle reached 8.8 liters per 100 kilometers.
There was also a more powerful version of this motor.tyu 162 hp (4600 rpm) and with a torque of 271 Nm (3600 rpm).
The engines were aggregated with a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission.
The front suspension used a double wishbone, a spring-loaded strut and a lateral stabilizer; the rear one included a continuous axle beam, springs and a transverse stabilizer.
The front brakes are ventilated discs, the rear ones are disc. Standard tire size 215 / 60R16.
In 1995, production of the redesigned Pontiac Firebird began. Dimensions as kune and convertible steel 4910/1890/1300 mm with a wheelbase of 2570 mm and a track of 1540/1540 mm. The curb weight of the car increased to 1585 kg, and the number of seats - up to four. The ground clearance remains the same - 115 mm.
The Firebird of this generation was equipped with a 3.8-liter V6 engine (203 hp / 5200 rpm, 305 Nm / 4000 rpm), and since 2001 - a 5.7-liter V8 with a capacity of 314 (5200 rpm), 324 or 330 hp and with a torque of 461 Nm (4000 rpm). The maximum speed of the model with the V6 engine reached 200 km / h; The consumption of AI-91 gasoline in the urban cycle is 12.4 liters, on the highway - 7.6 liters, and in the mixed cycle - 10.2 liters. Acceleration to hundreds of carsa mobile equipped with a V8 (314 hp) took 6 seconds, and the maximum speed increased to 250 km / h; AI-95 consumption in the city was 12.4 liters, in the extra-urban cycle - 8.4 liters, and in the mixed cycle - 10.7 liters per 100 km.
The number of gears of the manual box increased to six, the automatic transmission remained 4-speed. Due to the fact that the gearbox is shifted to the rear axle area, the weight distribution along the axles turned out to be almost optimal, which had a positive effect on handling.
