The debut of the Saab 900 came at a time when unification began to dominate the automotive world. At a time when it was almost impossible to remain original. But this is exactly what the Saab 900 was - and in everything, from appearance to design.

The first Saab 900 rolled off the assembly line in 1978 in two body styles at once: a 3-door hatchback, which for its strength and reliability was extremely fond of the police, who were accustomed not to spare official vehicles, and a 5-door hatchback, very effective thanks to additional rear windows. WedIn comparison with the previous, 99th model, in the 900th the front overhang was significantly lengthened due to the layout with the longitudinal engine arrangement. But the massive bumpers traditional for Swedish cars, as well as the old-fashioned curved panoramic glass, have been preserved. From the innovations, the model with the index 900 received a filter for cleaning the air entering the cabin.

The dashboard is informative, but not overloaded with details. The ignition lock is in its usual place - on the console, near the gear lever. The car seats are well shaped and very comfortable.obna. It is possible to fold the backs of the front seats back and thus get a spacious luxury lounge. The volume of the trunk can be changed depending on the layout: from 600 to 1600 liters with the rear sofa folded down.

Inertial seat belts, excellent powerful brakes and safety bars in the doors provide a high level of active and passive safety.

In 1980, Saab developed the APC system, which regulated fuel delivery by increasing or decreasing the turbocharging pressure.

September 1982and the Saab 900 range has been extended with a sedan version.

In 1983, the Saab 900 Turbo 16S was released, equipped with a 16-valve turbocharged engine. This modification is also known as the Aero.

With the launch of the 1986 Saab 900 Convertible, another milestone in the company's history was opened.

Today the first generation Saab 900 is style. Unusual, original, albeit a little outdated - but style! Long overhangs, a characteristic descending tail line, an almost vertical windshield and large doorsclosing the thresholds with the lower edges. In short, the first generation Saab 900 is the embodiment of reliability and driving safety.

The history of the Saab 900 distinguishes between two generations: the first (1978-1993) and the second generation (1993-1998).

The 1st generation Saab 900 lineup lasted until March 1993. The new modification (New Generation) was no longer a purely Swedish project, but rather the fruit of joint cooperation, since the Scandinavian company since 1990 became part of the General Motors concern and, naturally, to a certain extent was forced toobey the will of the American masters.

The Saab 900 II inherited from the newly minted German “relative” Opel Vectra the transverse arrangement of the engine, the shape of the body base (significantly reinforced by Swedish specialists), as well as the suspension design.

The exterior of the second generation Saab 900 is significantly different from the first. He was a bright individualist, evoking polar assessments from those around him. The Saab 900 II is less extravagant. There is no low long "nose", no panoramic windshield, no sloping rear. But the characteristic featuresstill remained in the silhouette. And the ignition switch is still between the seats. At the same time, in ergonomics, the "900th" of the second generation took a step forward compared to its predecessor: very good seats, comfortable steering wheel rim, powerful stove. The dashboard looks even more massive, and the climate control knobs have been moved to the center console.

The salon has become more modern, but at the same time retained its original style. Swedish designers have tried to decorate the interior as original as possible. As for additional equipment, allversions of this generation are equipped with power steering, central locking, power windows and an airbag for the driver. The SE version also features leather upholstery, air conditioning, alloy wheel rims and fog lights. In short, the interior trim can be described as more uniform than in the previous generation of the 900th.

As in the cars of the 1st generation, the trunk of the Saab 900 II is very spacious - from 495 to 1315 liters, and a folding sectional wall of the rear seat is available in all versions.

Saab 900the second generation has excellent engines and powerful brakes. Cars confidently keep a straight line, mild steering does not make you tense. Time has shown that the stabilizer struts, as well as the rear semi-independent suspension, practically do not break here. The steering mechanism is also distinguished by excellent reliability.

Plus the highest level of security. The car was equipped with a rear seat, the design of which included tensioned belts, three diagonal lap seat belts for rear seat passengers, a systemrear side impact shields. These innovations in the automotive industry have established Saab as one of the safest vehicles in the world.

To decorate the Saab 900 II lineup, a new convertible was called upon, which, in May 1994, began to be assembled at the plant of the notorious Finnish company Valmet. The highest in the world, Swedish safety standards have led to the fact that this model has become almost the most equipped for this indicator in its class: ABS on all modifications, traction control on a turboveriyah, a crossbar integrated into the backrest of the rear folding seat.

But most surprisingly, the new convertible has been made all-season. The SAAB 900 Convertible could be operated all year round because equipped with a double awning, heated rear window and a powerful stove, after all, northern roots.

The Saab 900 II is equipped with normally ventilated and turbocharged engines with a displacement of 2.0 liters, 2.3 liters and a 2.5-liter Opel V6. The power of these motors ranged from 133 to 185 hp. with. The most preferable in terms of dynamics can be calledA 2.3-liter, 185-horsepower turbo version, which was optionally equipped with the Sensonic system, which allows manual gear shifting - without a clutch pedal. For other models, either a 5-speed conventional manual transmission, or a 4-range "automatic" are intended.

In 1998, the Saab 900 was replaced by a car with an index of 9-3.
