The Chrysler Crossfire is a beautiful and fast car. The model is not only stylistically flawless, but thoroughly worked out technically. A dynamic look from the talented designers of an American company and the ability to make dashing shots from German engineers - this is a full-fledged DaimlerChrysler product.

The car received a symbolic name. The resounding word "Crossfire", translated means "Crossfire", has a certain meaning: the coupe is aimed at markets on bothregions of the ocean, to that segment in which the united concern was practically not represented, and which it will have to conquer, displacing strong competitors.

Aggressive nose, concealing remarkable strength under the hood, is both massive and graceful. The stern is generally a work of art: wide rear fenders, two chrome-plated exhaust pipes located in the center of the bumper, lights - everything is unusually harmonious. Even wheels of different dimensions and diameters (225/40 ZR 18 at the front and 255/35 ZR 19 at the rear) are quite logical here.

Wide wheel arches, wThe sleeves and fenders give the vehicle a swift look. Despite the low stance and high thresholds, the Crossfire is comfortable to sit in. As expected, the driver sits practically on the floor with his legs extended forward. A narrow windshield and an overhanging roof are in front of the eyes. A long, embossed bonnet is visible in front, and only a small section of the road behind. At the same time, the visibility can be called satisfactory for a sports coupe. Just behind the seat backs, the trunk begins, separated from the passenger compartment by a high partition.

Crossfire exterior designin a progressive neo-retro style. Stylish sophistication can be found in every corner of the superbly appointed interior, from the silver-tone front console, switches and other controls to the premium leather seats. The sports seats are firmly in place and have the correct profile. The steering wheel is adjustable only for reach, but does not overlap the instruments. It is not very convenient to read a small digitized speedometer, moreover, marked both in miles and kilometers. All the more strange for the euroPeysky car is that the kilometer scale is smaller. The devices are placed in wells edged with aluminum inserts. In the tradition of Chrysler, chrome panels on the center console are abundantly used. Fitting of parts, ergonomics of the driver's seat, arrangement of controls - all this is the same as in prestigious European models. The Crossfire is 60% new, everything else borrowed from Mercedes-Benz models.

The interior is influenced by the European design school: the seats are separated by an elegant armrest, passingm in the center console, have pronounced lateral support and are trimmed with expensive leather. There is only one cup holder in the central tunnel, and only a passenger can use it. For small travel items there are pockets in the doors, a glove compartment and a trunk. However, the latter is not the main thing for a sports car. The main thing is that there is a trunk and there is enough room for a large sports bag (trunk volume is 215 liters). The glove box, the "glove compartment" in front of the passenger is also impressive: by pulling the handle, you will not just open the lid, but lower the box in volumem 4.8 liters.

The Crossfire is primarily a driver's car. Therefore, only his chair is equipped with electrical adjustments in eight directions, including the angle of inclination of the pillow, while a fellow traveler can only adjust the backrest tilt and move back and forth. The landing itself, as it should be in such cars, is very low, the window line runs above shoulder level.

The Infinity Modulus audio system with a 240-watt six-channel amplifier, four speakers in the doors and two speakers behind the seats deserves special words. It soundsso that even at high speed, all the nuances of your favorite composition are discernible.

The gearshift lever, automatic or mechanical, is made of the same material as the door handles, the inserts on the steering wheel and pedals are made of metal. In general, the interior of the Crossfire is distinguished by well-thought-out ergonomics, the interior is comfortable and sporty. Of course, the journalistic fraternity immediately began to notice the elements familiar from Mercedes (steering column switches, ignition lock), but this is more an advantage of the model than its disadvantage.

Only one engine is offered - a 3.2-liter 6-cylinder18-valve engine with 215 hp. You can choose from an automatic five-speed transmission with electronic control and the possibility of manual shifting or a six-speed "mechanics". Crossfire accelerates to 100 km / h in 7 seconds. The lever of the five-speed "automatic" moves along a winding slot and has two additional modes - sports and winter. To change gears on your own, the lever must be swung left and right. The front double-wishbone suspension is completely borrowed from the SLK, the rear multi-link suspension - from the "old" E-class (W210), provide the Crossfire with extraordinary handling and maneuverability. At the 2004 North American Auto Show, Chrysler unveiled a roadster based on the production Crossfire model. The roadster differs from the already produced coupe, practically, only by the presence of an automatically retractable top. By the way, the car received a classic soft foldinga roof, not a newfangled hard one. The development of the folding roof mechanism was carried out by the famous Karmann studio, specializing in convertibles and roadsters. The electric roof can be folded down in just 22 seconds.

In technical terms, the new roadster almost completely repeats the closed version, and is equipped with the same six-cylinder 3.2-liter engine. Only the power structure of the body has undergone some changes in order to compensate for the lack of a rigid roof. The interior trim has also changed slightly, especiallybut in the back.
